Entrevista a Julie Garwood

INTERVIEW

-The ideal man is your next book, would tell us something about it? see some character we already know?

THE IDEAL MAN introduces some new characters. Ellie Sullivan is a young surgeon who becomes a witness to a shooting while she's jogging just outside the hospital. She suddenly finds herself in the center of a criminal investigation. FBI Agent Max Daniels is working the case and takes a personal interest in Ellie. He discovers that she's in even more danger than the usual witness. So when she heads home to her sister's wedding in South Carolina, he follows her. He's a rugged, no-nonsense lawman and definitely not the sort of man Ellie ever thought she'd be attracted to, but there's something about Max that she can't resist.

-Right now in Spain are publishing most of her books, the young people first met .... for someone who wants to start reading your books, Which would you recommend?

It depends on whether the reader prefers historical novels or contemporary novels. If she likes historicals, I'd recommend THE BRIDE or maybe THE SECRET. If she likes contemporary stories, I'd start with the first one I wrote, HEARTBREAKER, and work through them chronologically. I've listed them and I've shown which ones have connecting characters on my website at www.juliegarwood.com/books/booklist.htm .

-You are one of the queens of romantic literary genre ,meant you some pressure?

I appreciate the compliment, but I think of myself as a storyteller. I always feel the pressure to tell a good story, and I definitely want the reader to feel that the hours she's spent reading one of my books has have been worthwhile.

-What kind of audience you have in mind as you write? Do you think there is a difference between literature "for women" and literature "for men"?

My readers are primarily women , young and old, but I do hear from quite a few men as well. I think women's literature focuses on the emotions more, so I try to write that way. I want my readers to laugh and cry, and when they close the book at the end, I want them to do it with a sigh. However, because I like a story with some action in it, too, I always add a bit of intrigue and mystery.

-When you started writing, did you have in mind that many writers want to imitate your literary models?

No, not at all.

-Oly`s favourite of your books is Mercy and my favourite book is " The secret" , what is your favourite?

It's usually the one I'm working on. That's probably because it has my full attention at the time.

-What moves you to choose a theme for your books? ¿Experiences or fantasies?What can be known about Julie Garwood through their stories? Is it or is hidden behind the veil of its characters and plots?

My stories usually are about friends, family and loyalty. I've never really analyzed it, but I suppose these themes come from my upbringing. I was born into a large family, five sisters and one brother, and family is still very important to all of us.

-How do you make the documentation for the novels as well detailed in Scotland? Will you hire someone to help in the process? Or enjoy the process of documenting your own?

I did a great deal of research in libraries when I wrote my historical Scottish books. Now, there's so much information on the Internet, I can get most of my answers by going online. I have someone who helps me.

-What is the phrase or paragraph that has hurt you most delete in one of your writings

I've never really been upset to delete something from what I've written. If I've taken something out, it's usually because it makes the story better.

-For the roses "(Times of roses), has been adapted to television as Rose Hill. Which of his other books like that were the made into movies? Would you like to be part of the project?

FOR THE ROSES was the only book that was adapted for a movie. I'd love to see more of my characters come to life on the screen, and I'd definitely like to be part of it. I'd want the story to follow the plot of the book.

-Have any fans ever made comments that may have impressed, surprised ortouched you?

I am constantly touched by the letters and emails I receive. I think the ones that mean the most are from people who have gone through a hard time. When they tell me my stories helped them escape for a while or made a bad experience a little more bearable, then I feel very humbled and grateful.

-We can see in Spain to sign all your novels?Would you like to add something more to this interview or say something to spanish readers?

I'd like to thank all my Spanish readers. I've heard from many of you over the years, and I am so thankful for your support.

-¿“The ideal man” es su siguiente libro, nos podrías contar algo acerca de el? Veremos algunos personajes que ya conocemos?

THE IDEAL MAN introduce nuevos personajes. Ellie Sullivan es una joven cirujana que se convierte en testigo de un tiroteo mientras está corre en las afueras del hospital. De repente, se encuentra en el centro de una investigación criminal. El agente del FBI Max Daniels está trabajando en el caso y tiene un interés personal en Ellie. Él descubre que ella está en peligro aún más que un testigo habitual. Así que cuando ella se dirige a casa a la boda de su hermana en Carolina del Sur, él la sigue. Es un hombre robusto de leyes sin sentido y sin duda no es el tipo de hombre que a Ellie la atrajese, pero hay algo acerca de Max que ella no puede resistir.

Depende de si el lector prefiere la novela histórica o la novela contemporánea. Si le gustan las históricas, me gustaría recomendar “La novia rebelde”o tal vez “el secreto”. Si le gustan las historias contemporáneas, comenzaría con la primera que escribí, HEARTBREAKER, y trabajar a través de ellas cronológicamente. -Usted es una de las reinas del género literario romántico, ¿Tienes algo de presión al respecto?

Le agradezco el cumplido, pero creo en mí misma como una narradora de historias. Siempre siento la presión para contar una buena historia, y definitivamente quiero que el lector sienta que las horas que ha pasado leyendo uno de mis libros ha valido la pena.

¿Qué clase de audiencia tiene en mente a medida que escribe? ¿Cree usted que hay una diferencia entre la literatura "para mujeres" y la literatura "para hombres"?

Mis lectores son principalmente mujeres, jóvenes y viejas, pero sí escucho a muchos hombres también. Creo que la literatura femenina se concentra mas en las emociones, así que trato de escribir de esa manera. Quiero que mis lectores hayan reído y llorado, y cuando al final cierren el libro, quiero que lo hagan con un suspiro. Sin embargo, porque me gusta una historia con algún tipo de acción en él, también, añado un poco de intriga y misterio.

-¿Cuando empezó a escribir, tenias en mente que algunos escritores imitasen su modelo literario?

No, en absoluto.

-El libro favorito de Oly es de sus libros es “Mercy” y mi libro favorito es" El secreto “", ¿cuál es su favorito?

Por lo general en el que estoy trabajando. Eso es probablemente porque tiene toda mi atención en ese momento.

-¿Qué es lo que la mueve para elegir el tema para sus libros? ¿Las experiencias o fantasías? ¿Qué se puede conocer de Julie Garwood a través de sus historias? ¿Es o se oculta tras el velo de sus personajes y las tramas?

Mis historias suelen ser sobre amigos, la familia y la lealtad. Nunca lo he analizado, pero supongo que estos temas vienen de mi educación. Yo nací en una familia numerosa, cinco hermanas y un hermano, y la familia sigue siendo muy importante para todos nosotros.

-¿Cómo se documenta sobre las novelas que están tan detalladas en Escocia? ¿Contrata a alguien para que le ayude en el proceso? ¿O disfruta del proceso de documentarse usted misma?

Hice un gran esfuerzo de investigación en las bibliotecas cuando escribí mis libros históricos de Escocia. Ahora, hay tanta información en Internet, que puedes conseguir la mayoría de las respuestas por Internet. Tengo a alguien que me ayuda.

-¿Cuál es la frase o párrafo que nunca quitaría bajo ningún concepto?

Nunca me ha molestado borrar algo de lo que he escrito. Si he hecho eso, por lo general, es para que la historia sea mejor.

-For the roses "(Tiempos de rosas), se ha adaptado a la televisión como Rose Hill. ¿Cuál de sus libros la gustaría que fuese llevado al cine? ¿Te gustaría ser parte del proyecto?

“FOR THE ROSES” fue el único libro que fue adaptado para una película. Me encantaría ver más de mis personajes cobrando vida en la pantalla, y sin duda me gustaría formar parte de ella. Me gustaría que la historia siguiera la trama del libro.

-¿Hay algún comentario de algún fan que la haya impresionado, sorprendido o tocado?

Estoy constantemente afectada por las cartas y correos electrónicos que recibo. Creo que los que significan la mayoría son de personas que han pasado por un momento difícil. Cuando me dicen que mis historias les ayudaron a escapar por un tiempo o hizo que una mala experiencia fuese un poco más soportable, entonces me siento muy honrada y agradecida.

-¿Podremos verla en España para que nos firme todas sus novelas? ¿Te gustaría añadir algo más a esta entrevista o decir algo a los lectores españoles?

Me gustaría agradecer a todos mis lectores españoles. He oído de muchos de ustedes en los últimos años, y estoy muy agradecida por su apoyo.
