Goodbye Spotify (El Guincho - Bombay)

(ENGLISH AHEAD) Sirvan estas líneas antes de hacer la maleta y salir a conocer un poco de mundo para dar el adiós casi definitivo a un compañero de viaje que durante dos años me ha abierto los oídos a nuevos mundos desconocidos. De alguno de ellos he hablado en este blog.
Como ya ocurrió con lastfm, Spotify nos deja. Lo digo sin rencor y sin mala idea. Vale que han tenido que pasar por el aro de las exigencias de las majors americanas si querían aterrizar en los Estados Unidos -probablemente todos lo hubiéramos hecho- si lo que quisiéramos es comenzar a ganar dinero a espuertas en plan "ahora me convierto en multinacional". Si nos fuera más el romanticismo de "mira lo que he hecho y cuánta gente disfruta de mi invento", quizás nos hubiéramos quedado como estábamos.
Cuando regrese de vacaciones Spotify solo me dejará escuchar diez horas de música al mes, y la canción que me guste solo podré escucharla cinco veces ¿al mes?, ¿a la semana?... Pues no, cinco veces en la vida. Eso si no pagas 5 eurillos al mes del ala por una cuenta premium. Vale que 5 eurillos no es nada, por mucha crisis que haya, pero es que a mí, como a todo bicho viviente, escuchar Spotify me cuesta más de 60 eurazos al mes con ladrONO. El que diga que el streaming es gratis que se lo haga mirar (fundamentalmente en el extracto del mes de su banco).
Por ello ya estoy buscando las alternativas al programa del logo verde. Probablemente me quede con Grooveshark. Me parece la alternativa más parecida a lo de antes. Puede que no tenga tanta música, pero te da la opción de subirla si no está. Puede que el interfaz no mole tanto, pero más feo ha sido siempre el diseño de Myspace y ahí lo tienen dando guerra.
Otra alternativa curiosa, simpática pero útil es Gatunes, un invento patrio muy fácil de usar y que viene a ser un spotify de videos colgados en youtube que la página administra de manera muy parecida a spotify. Vale la pena probarlo. Para muestra, una lista de reproducción de vídeos acabadita de crear:
Como todo esto de los derechos de autor, la difusión, el pirateo, la libertad de expresión y demás está resultando en un debate bastante surrealista por momentos, os dejo con un vídeo muy ídem de El Guincho. El músico canario que ha traspasado fronteras con su pop pegadizo, colorista, experimental y de múltiples influencias (probablemente el único músico que haya hecho que no le haga ascos al sonido calypso) nos deja unos mensajillos en la letra de Bombay que nos van muy bien para ilustrar la diáspora de usuarios que se espera de una plataforma a otras: "solo yo te pido que te quedes en donde puedas alcanzar lo que quieras conseguir, en cambio tú me pides que me quede en donde puedas vigilarme hasta que te canses de buscar." No se cansen de buscar, siempre hay otros mundos.

Just a few hours away to set off to the discovery of a new place in the world, I wish to publish this post to say farewell to my companion of the last two years. A companion that has opened my ears to a whole new world of music, which has been dealt with in this blog on many occasions.
As it happened with Last.fm, Spotify is dead. There's no grudge in my words. I understand that the firm has had to surrender to all the demands by the majors if it was hoping to establish on American ground. We might have done the same if our wish had been to earn money by the ton, like 'now we are going multinational'. If we were more into the romanticism of 'look what I've done and how many people are enjoying it', we might as well just remained the same.
When I come back from holiday Spotify will let me listen to ten hours of music per month, and if I like a song, I will be allowed to listen to it five times -a week?, a month?-. No. Five times a life. Unless you upgrade to a premium account, which will cost you an additional 5 euro per month. Yes, additional. Because for the last two years I have been paying for the use of  Spotify more than 50 pounds a month (a sheer rip-off by my Internet provider) Whoever said streaming was for free, he must have been kidding. You'd better check out your bank's monthly statements. 
That's why I am searching the net for alternatives to the company of the green logo. One of my favourites is Grooveshark. There may not be as much music as on the other, but you can upload any song you like. It may not have the nicest and handiest interface but, who cares, Myspace has always had the ugliest design and there it is.

Another alternative is the nice little site Gatunes, a Spanish creation as useful as Spotify if you are into the video world. It searches and manages Youtube videos in the same way Spotify used to do. But you're not forced to watch them, so you can listen to (nearly) all music currently in Youtube and it's dead easy to make it work. Just have a look at this brand new playlist:
I feel that all this discussion about copyrights, avoiding piracy, freedom of speech, and company benefits is getting a bit surreal, so I wish to invite you to a surrealistic journey. Spanish artist El Guincho has shot this mesmerizing video for his hit Bombay. El Guincho has developed a catchy, colourful, experimental and  multi-influenced pop sound (probably the only artist that has made it possible for me to enjoy a pseudo-calypso sound) and, reading between the lines, one can rescue a few lines that illustrate the new diaspora of spotify fans to other sites: 'I ask you to stay where you can reach what you wish to get, while you ask me to stay where you can keep an eye on me until you get tired of searching'. Don't you ever get tired of  searching, there's always other worlds out there.
