Create Printable Models With Your AndroidYou don’t have to be a geek to think 3D printing is totally awesome. That said, creating a design that can actually be put together by one of those magic machines certainly feels like it falls well-within the realm of the supernerds.

Most CAD tools (which just stands for Computer-Aided Design) that you would use to make a model for 3D printing are quite complex. They require too high of an investment of both time and energy for anyone just hoping to print out a little figure of their favorite anime character.

The free 3D Creationist app looks to give casual would-be 3D artists a leg up, offering a super simple suite of basic tools in the palm of your hand. Even kids can quickly learn to rotate, scale, and place its basic adjustable shapes (cone, cylinder, cube, etc). With a touch of ingenuity, you can build anything you can imagine, then export it to a .STL file for actual 3D printing.

Someday soon, our kids are gonna marvel at the fact that we ever printed in 2D.

Picture it before you build it: How To Draw Floor Plans With Your Android

Here’s how to create 3D printable models with your Android:

1. Install and open the 3D Creationist app.

2. Run through the tutorial if you like. First, you’ll add a shape: choose from a square, circle, cylinder, cone, or a ring.

3. Adjust your perspective by pinching and zooming. Move the shape around the plane with the move tool by tapping and dragging the colored arrows.

4. Swap to the scale tool to adjust the size of the shape by tapping and dragging the same arrows.

5. Use the rotate tool to turn the shape around by tapping and dragging those very same arrows. Simple, right?

6. Change the color of the object with the empty box just below the rotate tool.

7. You can duplicate any objects that you want to appear more than once by tapping the copy tool (the button in the bottom right with two sheets of paper on it).

8. That’s it! Now get creative - these simple adjustment tools should allow you to construct nearly anything your little building heart desires.

9. When you’ve created something you love, export it to a .OBJ file for further editing, to an .STL for printing, or to a screenshot for sharing wherever you like. Alternatively, you can upload it onto the 3D Creationist website; check out the cool shapes other people have put together!
