Los freelance de España y la economía sumergida

                Llevaba ya algún tiempo sin publicar ningún artículo referente al mundo freelance, y esta noticia de CincoDías, aunque tenga un año de antigüedad (se puede hacer un muy buen chiste malo con el juego de palabras), ha sido la excusa perfecta para comentar algo que vengo pensando desde hace tiempo:        "Los trabajadores freelance de España están contentos con su situación. La flexibilidad horaria, el teletrabajo, o la relación directa con el cliente hacen que el 87% de los autónomos quieran seguir siéndolo. Sin embargo, se siguen encontrando barreras para que el autoempleo se extienda".
            El artículo expone varias cosas interesantes sobre lo que es vivir como freelance, centrándose sobre todo en sus beneficios, como la flexibilidad horaria, el gusto de ser tu propio jefe, o aceptar solo los proyectos en los que se quiere trabajar. Casi diría que algunos puntos son hasta demasiado optimistas, como si fuera un camino de rosas, pero en realidad no es ese el tema del que quiero hablar. Lo que más me ha llamado la atención ha sido precisamente la última línea de la cita que he puesto, la que hace referencia a las barreras para que el autoempleo se extienda. Bien, esto tiene 1001 matices. 

          Es completamente cierto que a día de hoy es muy complicado llegar a ser trabajador autónomo, por no hablar de las sentencias agoreras que puedes oír de boca de tus amigos, familiares y conocidos cuando les hablas sobre la posibilidad de convertirte en trabajador por cuenta ajena: "más vale que ganes mucho dinero de primeras, porque te vas a arruinar", "tal y como están las cosas, ser autónomo es un suicidio", "tú déjate de tonterías y búscate algo que te de un sueldo fijo". ¿Cómo culparlos? Después de todo, se preocupan y por ti y consideran que lo mejor en tiempos de crisis es ir a lo más seguro. ¿Pero sabemos realmente cuánta gente hay en España viviendo de la economía sumergida, dadas las dificultades para darse de alta como autónomo? Cobrar en negro es algo que siempre ha existido, sí, pero los trabajos tipo freelance han aumentado aún más esta situación. Y esto ocurre así porque en primer lugar, y como ya he explicado muchas veces aquí, aún queda mucho para que en países como España se contemple el trabajo freelance como un trabajo serio sin posibilidad de regatear los precios; y en segundo lugar, que no deja de ser una consecuencia del primero, si el trabajo freelance se devalúa por ser tan abundante, el sueldo conseguido por la mayoría de freelancers no llegaría ni a los 600 euros al mes. B siempre irá detrás de A, y la pescadilla siempre se morderá la cola.          Teniendo en cuenta esto, tenemos el siguiente panorama, ¿qué pasa si realmente se generaliza la economía sumergida hasta el punto de que pueda suponer un problema para el mantenimiento del propio sistema económico? Porque ya no es solo que miles de jóvenes lleguen a la mitad de su vida laboral sin haber cotizado jamás, sino que esto se verá reflejado en el impago de impuestos, que provocaría un descalabro monumental de todo el sistema. Porque nadie está cotizando. Porque nadie está "trabajando". No lo digo con el ánimo de meter miedo, sino como una bandera roja que nuestros (no) gobernantes parecen no darle la atención que merece. Aunque pensándolo bien, y acercándonos peligrosamente al año sin gobierno, me sorprende enormemente que este país aún no haya colapsado sin un capitán al mando del barco. Al final España va a ser el viejo avaro que tiene más dinero del que parece.          Todos los comentarios son bienvenidos.

               Long time has passed since I published an article about the freelance world, and this news from CincoDías, althoug it was written one year ago, has been the perfect excuse to talk about something which has been in my mind for a while:          "Freelance workers from Spain are happy with their situation. Flexible hours, teleworking, or direct relationship with the client make that the 87% of  self-employed workers want to continue to do so. However, there are still barriers to expand self-employment.
           The article exposes many interesting things about what is to live as a freelancer, focusing on its benefits specially, like flexible hours, the joy of being your own boss, or just accepting works which interest you. I almost would say that all these points are too optimistic, like if it was a bed of roses, but this is not the topic I want to discuss about actually. What has catched my attention the most is the last line of the quotation I wrote, the one which refers to the barriers to expand self-employment. Well, it has 1001 interpretations.

              It's totally true that nowadays is really complicated to be a self-employed worker, not to mention all the bad omens you can hear from your friends, family or acquaintances when you tell them the possibility of becoming yourself in a freelance worker: "better if you earn a lot of money at first, because you're going to ruin yourself", "as things stand currently, being a freelancer is a suicide", "stop this nonsense and look for something which provides you a stable salary". How to blame them? After all, they worry about you and they think that the best option in the middle of the crisis is just being on the safe side. But do we really know how many people in Spain is living by underground economy, due to the difficulties to be self-employed? Being paid "under the counter" is something that has always existed, yes, but freelance jobs have potentiated this situation even more. And this happens like that because on the first place, and as I have explained in many occasions here, there's still much to do in countries like Spain to make the freelance work a respectable job, with non-negotiable prices; and on the second place, which is a consequence of the first point, if freelance jobs get devaluated because there is a big amount of them, the salary earned by the majority of freelancers would not even approach 600 euros per month. B always comes after A, and the dog always chases its tail.          Taking this into account, we have the following background, what happens if underground economy is generalized to the extent of being a problem for the stability of the whole economic system? Because it's not just that most young people reach the half of their labour life without having contributed to the system ever, but this will be reflected in the non-payment of taxes, which will cause a massive destruction of the system. Because no one is contributing. Because no one is "working". I don't say that to spread the fear, but as a red flag that our (non) leaders seem to no pay the attention it deserves. Although on second thought, and getting closer to the first year without government, I'm actually quite surprised that this country hasn't collapsed yet without a captain commanding the boat. Maybe Spain turns out to be like the old miser who has more money than it seems.                  All comments are welcome.
