Estamos casi terminando Marzo y mucha gente ya está pensando en sus vacaciones, que en España son fundamentalmente en verano. Pero además, entre las fechas favoritas para viajar siempre ha estado la Semana Santa, tanto para los devotos de las procesiones y demás actos propios de estas fechas como de los que huyen de la rutina buscando un lugar para descansar. En 2014, Jueves y Viernes Santo son el 17 y 18 de abril por lo que los más afortunados podrán disfrutar de unas merecidas vacaciones desde el 11 de abril.
We are ending almost March and many people already are thinking about their vacations, that in Spain they are fundamentally in summer. But in addition, between the favorite dates to travel always it has been the Holy Week, so much for the devout ones of the processions and other typical acts of these dates as of those who flee of the routine looking for a place to rest.
In 2014, Holy Thursday and Good Friday are an April 17 and 18 for what the luckiest will be able to enjoy a few well-deserved vacations from April 11.
Entre los destinos que encabezan las listas de viajes para Semana Santa encontramos a Madrid y Barcelona, ciudades que si bien no tienen unas fiestas conocidas popularmente, sí que son capaces de ofrecer al viajero una oferta de ocio muy diversa. Teniendo en cuenta que Semana Santa es una semana en la que se celebra mucho la religiosidad y muchos viajeros aprovechan para realizar procesiones y asistir a eventos religiosos, hay que decir que también se aprovecha para poder disfrutar de unos días en los que no se trabaja y por eso muchos viajeros aprovechan para coger a la familia y salir de casa, y esa nueva tradición viajera se está redirigiendo a lugares tranquilos.
Between the destinations that head the lists of trips for Holy Week we find Madrid and Barcelona, cities that though they do not have a few holidays known popularly, but this cities are capable of offering a very diverse offer of leisure to the traveller. Bearing in mind that Holy Week is one week in which the religiousness is celebrated very much and many travellers are useful to realize processions and to be present at religious events, it is necessary to say that also there are other travellers that want to be able to enjoy of a few days off with their families and also to get out of their homes, that is why there is nowadays a new travelling tradition is forwarded to calm places.
Por otro lado, entre las ciudades elegidas para viajar en Semana Santa encontramos a un clásico de los viajes cómo lo es París, con un precio medio por noche de 114 €, mientras que Roma también se cuela en nuestros destinos favoritos con un precio de 115 €. Londres es otra gran ciudad para visitar, aunque eso sí, gana sobradamente en cuanto a precios medios al resto de ciudades mencionadas; una noche en Londres vale una media de 131 € . (siempre y cuando se busquen hoteles de mínimo 3*, ya que para los viajeros low cost se pueden encontrar hostales y albergues por 20€ la noche)
On the other hand, between the cities chosen to travel in The Holy Week we find the classic one of the trips how it is Paris, with an average price per night of 114 €, whereas Rome also slips past in our favorite destinations with a price of 115 €. London is another great city to visit, though it wins too as for average prices to the rest of mentioned cities; one night in London it costs an average of 131 €. (Always and when hotels of minimum look for 3 *, since for the travellers low cost they can find hotels and lodgings for 20 € the night)
Volviendo a ciudades españolas encontramos tres destinos ideales para estas fechas: Sevilla, que aprovecha el tirón que en estas fechas tiene su famosa Semana Santa, con un precio medio de 76 €, Valencia con un precio medio de 83 €. No obstante, hay que tener en cuenta que en Valencia, este año, confluyen dos fiestas muy conocidas: por un lado la Semana Santa, pero por otro, sus conocidísimas Fallas. Y Granada, que no sólo puede ofrecer sus conocidas fiestas litúrgicas de Semana Santa, con los pasos en lugares tan espectaculares como el barrio del Sacromonte, sino también por su Alhambra, que se ha erigido en uno de los mejores monumentos de toda España.
Welcome back to Spanish cities we find three ideal destinations for these dates: Seville, which takes advantage of the pull that in these dates has his famous Holy Week, with an average price of 76 €, Valencia with an average price of 83 €. Nevertheless, it is necessary to bear in mind that in Valencia, this year, two very known holidays come together: on the one hand the Holy Week, but for other one, his known ¨Fallas¨. And Granada, which not only can offer his known liturgical holidays of Holy Week, with places as spectacular as the neighborhood of the Sacromonte, but also for his Alhambra, which has been raised in one of the best monuments of the whole Spain.
Por último, encontramos a Lisboa, por su cercanía y sus buenas conexiones con España, con un precio medio que ronda los 115 €, mientras que la romántica Venecia es también una alternativa muy demandada por los viajeros con un precio medio por noche de 113 €.

1. Jerusalén, Israel
¿Qué mejor lugar para la Semana Santa que aquel en el que puede recordar in situ cada uno de los pasos de la Pasión de Cristo? Jerusalén es, además de su profundo significado para las tres grandes religiones monoteístas, un ciudad llena de historia, de belleza y de encanto que todos deberíamos conocer.

2. Bruselas, Bélgica
Más conocida como sede de las instituciones europeas, Bruselas es también una agradable ciudad que merece una visita. Lo más espectacular, por supuesto, la Grande Place que es una de las plazas más bellas de Europa y en la que una placa recuerda todavía los “crímenes” del opresor rey de España. Además de servirnos como centro para conocer también lugares como Brujas, Bruselas es una ciudad fantástica para las compras y tiene secretos como un fantástico Museo del Cómic. Este país está incluido en mi lista de mejores destinos para el 2014, sin duda Semana Santa es una oportunidad única para ir a conocer este país de moda.

2. Brussels, Belgium
More known as headquarters of the European institutions, Brussels is also an agreeable city that deserves a visit. The most spectacular thing, certainly, the Big Place that is one of the most beautiful plazas of Europe and in which a plate remembers still the “crimes” of the oppressive king of Spain. Beside being served as center to know also places as Bruges, Brussels is a fantastic city for the purchases and have a fantastic Museum of the Cómic. This country is included in my list of better destinations for 2014, undoubtedly Holy Week is one opportunity to be going to know this fashionable country.
3. Benicasim, Castellón
Si buscan un destino de costa tranquilo y cercano para esta Semana Santa, Benicasim es una opción excelente: buenas playas, mucho sol y también lugares cercanos con mucho interés como Peñíscola o el desierto de las Palmas en las montañas cercanas, además de algunos excelentes hoteles.
3. Benicasim, Castellón
If you are looking for a calm and nearby destination of coast for this Holy Week, Benicasim is an excellent option: good beaches, a lot of Sun and also nearby places with a lot of interest like Peñíscola or the desert of the Palms in the nearby mountains, besides some excellent hotels.
4. Algarve, Portugal
La región del sur de Portugal es un destino perfecto para Semana Santa: podemos elegir entre solitarias playas paradisíacas o centros turísticos más populosos, tendremos casi asegurado el buen tiempo e incluso podremos contemplar alguna de las tradiciones religiosas más conocidas e importantes de nuestro país vecino como la Fiesta de la Madre Soberana en Loulé. 4. The Algarve, Portugal
The region of the south of Portugal is a perfect destination for Holy Week: we can choose between solitary paradisiac beaches or more populous tourist centers, we will have almost insured the good time and even we will be able to contemplate someone of the most known religious and important traditions of our neighboring country as the Holiday of the Sovereign Mother in Loulé. 5. Budapest, Hungría
La capital húngara es una de las ciudades más bellas de centroeuropa o, mejor dicho, dos ciudades: ya que es en realidad el resultado de la fusión de Buda y Pest, cada una a cada lado del Danubio y cada una de ellas con su propio carácter bien diferenciado. Los grandes balnearios urbanos pueden hacer que su Semana Santa sea una de las más relajantes de su vida. Recomiendo totalmente este destino, tuve la oportunidad de realizar un viaje a esta maravillosa ciudad ( pronto haré el post de este viaje, Lo prometo!!!) y me sorprendió mucho, tiene muchos monumentos para visitar, una oferta de vida nocturna muy amplia para los viajeros más fiesteros, y por su puesto sus balnearios, el sitio perfecto para unas vacaciones de relax.

5. Budapest, Hungary
The Hungarian capital is one of the cities more beautiful of middle-europe or, rather, two cities: since it is actually the result of the merger of Buda and Pest, each one to every side of the Danube and each of them with his own differentiated well character. The big urban resorts can do that your Holy Week is one of the most relaxing of your life. I recommend totally this destination, I had the opportunity to realize a trip to this wonderful city (soon I will do the post of this trip, I promise It!!!) and I surprised it very much, it has many monuments to visit, an offer of night very wide life for the most festive travellers, and for his position his resorts, the perfect site for a few vacations of relaxation.
6. Cuenca
Con alguna de las procesiones más llamativas de toda la Semana Santa española, Cuenca es además una ciudad con un riquísimo patrimonio y con uno de los paisajes urbanos más impactantes de España: la conocida Hoz del Huécar y las todavía más conocida Casas Colgadas (en la imagen) que se asoman de forma escalofriante al abismo. La Semana Santa es, por cierto, de interés turístico internacional.
6. Cuenca
With someone of the most showy processions of the whole Holy Spanish Week, Cuenca is in addition a city with the richest heritage and with one of the most striking urban landscapes of our country: the known Sickle of the Huécar and them even more known Hung Houses (in the image) that appear of chilling form to the abyss. The Holy Week is, certainly, of tourist international interest.
7. Asturias
Esta comunidad autónoma al norte de España lo tiene prácticamente todo: desde espectaculares zonas de montaña como Somiedo o los Picos de Europa; hasta una costa bellísima llena de playas y acantilados, pasando por ciudades más que interesantes como Oviedo, Gijón o Avilés; e incluso una gastronomía a la que vale la pena dedicar tiempo y dinero. Voto por realizar este viaje en particular, he podido conocer Oviedo y Cangas de Onis y fue un viaje para recordar, los paisajes verdes y su gastronomía te enamoraran.
7. Asturias
This autonomous community to the north of Spain has practically everything: from spectacular zones of mountain like Somiedo or Europa’s Beaks; up to the most beautiful coast full of beaches and cliffs, and for beautiful cities as Oviedo, Gijon or Avilés; and even a gastronomy to the one that is worth a sorrow dedicating time and money. I vote for realizing this trip especially, could have known Oviedo and Cangas de Onis and it was a trip to remember, the green landscapes and his gastronomy are nothing that you would never forget.
8. Cádiz
Una de las ciudades más hermosas y agradables de España, Cádiz es un lugar ideal al que viajar en cualquier momento del año y, por supuesto, también en Semana Santa. Su espléndido patrimonio, desde las formidables ruinas romanas hasta la Catedral, y sobre todo sus deliciosas callejuelas o el mar prácticamente omnipresente en el caso viejo gaditano. Todo, sin olvidar los muy peculiares bares o las playas en los alrededores.
8. Cádiz
One of the most beautiful and agreeable cities of Spain, Cadiz is an ideal place to which to travel at any time of the year and, certainly, also in The Holy Week. It splendid heritage, from the formidable Roman ruins up to the Cathedral, and especially it beautiful and special streets or the practically omnipresent sea in the old from Cadiz case. Quite, without forgetting the very peculiar bars or the beaches in the surroundings.
9. Berna, Suiza
La Semana Santa es un momento perfecto para conocer Berna, una bellísima ciudad medieval cuyo centro es Patrimonio de la Humanidad y que, además, está rodeada por el espectacular paisaje de montañas nevadas propio de Suiza. A sólo dos horas de vuelo (y una extra de tren) la capital suiza es también una excelente plataforma para conocer el centro de la confederación helvética. 9. Berne, Switzerland
The Holy Week is a perfect moment to know Berne, the most beautiful medieval city which center is A Heritage of the Humanity and that, in addition, is surrounded by the spectacular own landscape of covered with snow mountains with Switzerland. To only two flight schedule (and an extra of train) the Swiss capital is also an excellent platform to know the center of the Swiss federation. 10. Estambul, Turquía
Si quieren conocer una cultura diferente -pero cercana a la española en algunos aspectos- y una de las ciudades más bellas del mundo, Estambul es un destino idóneo. Ubicada en un maravilloso punto entre Asia y Europa y con alguna de las mezquitas más impresionantes del mundo musulmán que, además, se pueden visitar todas. Y, por supuesto, los atardeceres sobre el Bósforo, que son un espectáculo inolvidable. Recomiendo este viaje, no he tenido la suerte de poder estar allí, pero sé que es un lugar que merece la pena visitar, perderse por sus callejuelas entre mercados y olores de especias, sin duda un viaje para recordar.
10. Istanbul, Turkey
If you want to know a different culture – but similar to the Spanish culture in some aspects – and one of the most beautiful cities of the world, Istanbul is a suitable destination. Located in a wonderful point between Asia and Europe and with someone of the most impressive mosques of the Moslem world that, in addition, they all are open to visit them. And, certainly, the late afternoons on the Bosporus, which they are an unforgettable spectacle. I recommend this trip, have not been lucky to be able to be there, but I know that it is a place that it is worth visiting, to get lost in their streets between markets and smells of spices, undoubtedly a trip to remember.
11. Cáceres
La Semana Santa de Cáceres fue declarada en 2011 de Interés Turístico Internacional y, aunque no sea de las más conocidas de España, sin duda sí es una de las que merece la pena conocer, en parte porque se desarrolla en un casco viejo que es de los más hermosos y de los más apropiados para el recogimiento y la contemplación propias de las procesiones.
11. Cáceres
The Holy Week of Cáceres was declared in 2011 of Tourist International Interest and, though it is not of most known from Spain, undoubtedly yes it is one of that is worth knowing, partly because it develops in an old hull that is of the most beautiful of our country and of most adapted for the concentration and the own contemplation of the processions.
12. Ibiza
Si usted no es muy de procesiones Ibiza puede ser su destino ideal para la Semana Santa. Y no, no es necesario ser un fan de la noche y de los mejores DJs internacionales: basta con querer disfrutar de playas de ensueño, de una isla de increíble belleza y, muy probablemente, del buen tiempo.

If you are not very of processions Ibiza can be his ideal destination for the Holy Week. And not, it is not necessary that to be a fan of the night and of the best international DJs: it is enough to want to enjoy beaches of dream, an island of incredible beauty and, very probably, the good time.
13. Madrid
No podía faltar una gran capital europea como Madrid es también un excelente destino para Semana Santa, una época en la que la ciudad suele ser algo más habitable de lo normal y uno se puede acercar a la espléndida oferta museística y cultural de la ciudad, hacer compras o, simplemente, disfrutar de sus calles siempre repletas de gente. Si lo que buscas es fiesta, esta ciudad es la ideal para ti, Madrid nunca duerme.

Could not be absent the great European capital like Madrid is also an excellent destination for Holy Week, an epoch in which the city is in the habit of being something more inhabitable of the normal thing and one being able to approach the splendid offer of museums and cultural of the city, to do purchases or, simply, to enjoy his streets always replete with people. If you are looking for parties, this city is the ideal one for you, Madrid never sleeps.
14. Londres, Gran Bretaña
A tiro de vuelo barato y a menos de tres horas, Londres es siempre un destino que conocer, redescubrir o, simplemente, visitar una vez más. Monumentos de todo tipo, algunos de los mejores museos del mundo, las tiendas que marcan tendencia y, sobre todo, una actividad incesante que la hacen desde hace siglos una de las ciudades más interesantes del mundo.
14. London, Great Britain
London is always a destination to known, to re-discover or, simply, to visit once again. Monuments of all kinds, some of the best museums of the world, the shops that mark trend and, especially, an incessant activity that they do for centuries one of the most interesting cities of the world.
15. Gerona
Las coloridas casas sobre el río Oñar son una de las postales más conocidas de Gerona, pero la pequeña ciudad catalana tiene mucho más que ofrecer: una catedral gótica espectacular, un recóndito y hermoso barrio judío -con un excelente museo- y unas murallas que, pese a estar en buena parte reconstruidas resultan impresionantes.

The colouring houses on the river Oñar are one of the postcards most known about Gerona, but the small Catalan city has much more that to offer: a Gothic spectacular cathedral, a recondite and beautiful Jewish neighborhood – with an excellent museum – and a few walls that, in spite of being in good part reconstructed turn out to be impressive.
16. Oporto, Portugal
Bellísima, con un toque decadente y se diría que cuidadosamente descuidado, Oporto es todo un gran descubrimiento para la mayoría de los viajeros españoles que la conocen. La presencia del Duero marca el carácter de una ciudad que es conocida por el vino -las bodegas son una más que recomendable- visita y por su casco antiguo que parece anclada en el pasado.

The most beautiful, with a decadent touch and would say that carefully careless, Oporto is the whole great discovery for the majority of the Spanish travellers who know it. The presence of the Duero´s River marks the character of a city that is known by the wine – the warehouses are one more that advisable – visits and for his old town that seems to be anchored in the past.

Pocas vistas en todo el mundo se pueden comparar a contemplar el atardecer en Granada desde uno de los miradores del Albaicín o del Realejo, con el sol poniéndose por detrás de la Alhambra. El más bello recuerdo -con permiso de la Catedral – Mezquita de Córdoba- del paso por España de la cultura musulmana es motivo más que suficiente para visitar Granada, pero esta ciudad andaluza ofrece mucho más.

Only some views in the whole world can be compared to contemplating the late afternoon in Granada from one of the viewing-points of the Albaicín or Realejo, with the Sun putting behind the Alhambra. The most beautiful evidence – with permission of the Cathedral – Mosque of Cordoba – of the step along Spain of the Moslem culture is a motive more that sufficient to visit Granada, but this Andalusian city offers much more.
18. Lanzarote, Canarias
Aquel viajero que busque buen tiempo y playas pero también algo más tiene en Lanzarote un destino inmejorable. A sus excelentes playas, como las del Papagayo, hay que unir paisajes como la maravilla volcánica que es Timanfaya, los heroicos viñedos de La Geria o el legado de un genio como César Manrique.
18. Lanzarote, Canaries
That traveller who searches good time and beaches but also something more has in Lanzarote an unsurpassable destination. To his excellent beaches, as those of the Parrot, it is necessary to join landscapes as the volcanic marvel that is Timanfaya, the heroic vineyards of The Geria or the legacy of a genius as César Manrique. 19. Marrakech, Marruecos
Si hablando de Estambul les recomendábamos la experiencia de conocer una cultura diferente, esto es todavía más radical en Marrakech, la ciudad marroquí que lleva tiempo siendo un destino turístico pero que aún así es una puerta abierta a otro mundo. Un mundo que quizás amen o que quizás odien, pero que seguro les impresionará.

If speaking about Istanbul we were recommending the experience of knowing a different culture, this is even more radical in Marrakech, the Moroccan city that goes time being a tourist destination but that nonetheless is a door opened for another world. A world that probably you would love or that probably you would hate, but that sure will impress you.
20. Orihuela, Alicante
Orihuela tiene la que, probablemente, sea la Semana Santa más atractiva de la Comunidad Valenciana. De hecho, ha sido declarada fiesta de interés turístico internacional. Un momento especial es la Procesión General del Viernes Santo, una de las más grandes de España ya que participan en ella unos 8000 nazarenos, 1200 músicos y otros elementos como dos centurias romanas.
20. Orihuela, Alicante
Orihuela has that, probably, the most attractive Holy Week of the Valencian Community. In fact, there has been declared holiday of tourist international interest and hoards a collection of heights between which there are examples of the best makers of religious images as Francisco Salzillo. A special moment is the General Procession of the Good Friday, one of the biggest of Spain since approximately 8000 Nazarenes take part in her, 1200 musical ones and other elements as two Roman centuries.
21. Montaña palentina, Palencia
El norte de la provincia de Palencia es un paisaje que merece ser descubierto: montañas nevadas, valles de increíble belleza, pueblos con encanto e incluso algunos ejemplos de arte románico que están en todos los libros de arte, como la pequeña pero bellísima iglesia de San Salvador de Cantamuda. Todo, además, aderezado con una gastronomía sobresaliente y carnes entre las mejores de España.
21. Palentina Mountain, Palencia
The north of the province of Palencia is a landscape that deserves to be an overdraft: covered with snow mountains, valleys of incredible beauty, peoples with captivation and enclosed some examples of Romanesque art that are in all the books of art, as the small but most beautiful church of Cantamuda’s San Salvador. Quite, in addition, adorned with an excellent gastronomy and meats among the best in Spain.
22. Roma
La capital italiana es, quizá, la ciudad más bella del mundo, y como a todo destino con un interés religioso es un destino idóneo para la Semana Santa. Con una abrumadora oferta cultural y monumental de la que los Museos Vaticanos serán la principal atracción en esa semana.

The Italian capital is, probably, the most beautiful city of the world, and since to any destination with a religious interest it is a suitable destination for the Holy Week. With an overwhelming cultural and monumental offer of which the Vactican´s Museums will be the principal attraction in this week.
23. Soria y la Laguna Negra
Soria es una de las provincias más desconocidas de España pero guarda en su interior multitud de atractivos para un viajero que guste de la naturaleza, el turismo rural y de ciudades pequeñas pero llenas de encanto como el Burgo de Osma o la propia Soria. También está la Laguna Negra (en la imagen) uno de los paisajes más impresionantes de la España interior y una excusa para un buen viaje esta Semana Santa.
23. Soria and the Black Lagoon
Soria is one of the most unknown provinces of Spain but guard in his interior multitude of attractions for a traveller who loves the nature, the rural tourism and cities small but full of captivation as Burgo de Osma or the own Soria. Also there is the Black Lagoon (in the image) one of the most impressive landscapes of the interior Spain and an excuse for a good trip this Holy Week.
24. Tarragona
Tarragona es una de las ciudades que tiene un patrimonio arqueológico más importante: bajo sus calles se esconden tesoros de su pasado romano que, en algunos casos, superan a los de la propia Roma -por ejemplo, en el circo, mejor conservado que el de la capital italiana- y también en el exterior encontramos impresionantes vestigios como las murallas o la imponente catedral (en la imagen). Sumen a esto una Semana Santa de las más importantes de Cataluña y tendrán un destino prefecto.
24. Tarragona
Tarragona is one of the cities that has a more important archaeological heritage: under his streets they hide exchequers of his Roman past that, in some cases, overcome those of the own Rome – for example, in the circus, better preserved than that of the Italian capital – and also in the exterior we find impressive vestiges as the walls or the impressive cathedral. Add up to this a Holy Week of the most important of Catalonia.
25. Zamora
Con una de las Semana Santas más importantes y más peculiares de Castilla y León, en Zamora se unen la belleza de la mejor imaginería y un sentimiento y una forma de celebrar muy especial. Además, la ciudad también ofrece al viajero un patrimonio románico difícil de igualar, una gastronomía muy apreciable y la belleza del Duero junto al que la ciudad parece descansar en un sueño profundo.
25. Zamora
With one of the most important Holy Weeks and more peculiar of Castile and León, in Zamora they join the beauty of the best imagery and a feeling and it forms a of celebrating very specially. In addition, the city also offers to the traveller a Romanesque heritage difficult to be equal, a very valuable gastronomy and the beauty of the Duero´s River close to which the city seems to rest in a deep dream.
