El estilo "Preppy" tiene su origen en los años 50 cuando en los Estados Unidos se ofertaba un curso preparatorio para futuros estudiantes universitarios quienes al iniciar dicho curso recibieron el nombre de "prepp" por ser novatos. Estos estudiantes desde ese entonces impusieron la moda "preppy" donde los protagonistas eran los jerseys y pantalones en colores pasteles y llamativos.
