Esta canción significa un logro y un éxito muy especial en la carrera artística de Elton.Es el tema musical principal de una hermosa producción cinematográfica animada de Disney, del año 1994.
La canción fue compuesta en 1993; luego grabada en Abril de 1994, en Santa Mónica, California, y lanzada el 9 de Agosto de 1994.Como en muchas otras ocasiones, la música fue compuesta por Elton John, y las letras por el autor inglés Tim Rice.
Para la apertura magistral de la película, la canción cuenta con la interpretación de Carmen Twille, en la voz femenina grave, y de Lebo M., en la vocalización de Zulu.En una entrevista, Tim Rice dijo estar asombrado de la rapidez con que Elton había compuesto la música."Le di las letras al comienzo de la sesión, como a las 2:00 de la tarde.Como a las 3:30, Elton había finalizado de escribir y grabar un demo asombroso."Elton cantó una versión pop de la canción con el London Community Gospel Choir, que también fue incluída en la pista sonora del filme, y hecha además video musical.
"Circle of Life" fue nominada para un Premio de la Academia como Mejor Canción en 1994, a la par de otras dos canciones de la película The Lion King: "Hakuna Matata" y "Can You Feel the Love Tonight".Esta última ganó el Premio.
El tema musical es una gran contribución al éxito global de The Lion King, que además es un show presentado en parque temático de Disney, y en paradas.También tiene su versión teatral en Broadway, y su adaptación de la canción para este fin.
