Trudy Pitts – The Excitement of Trudy Pitts

Trudy Pitts – The Excitement of Trudy Pitts [Recorded Live! At Club Baron] – Prestige PR 7583, Original Prestige Pressing, Blue Trident Label, Stereo

Trudy Pitts – Organ
Wilbert Longmire – Guitar
Bill Carney – Drums

Recorded – [not listed on sleeve, but according to major Prestige discographies - May 24, 1968 "Baron's", NYC]

Produced by Cal Lampley
Recording: Orville O’Brien

Released – October 26, 1968

Here’s a very cool Prestige Soul Jazz rarity that I acquired recently – The Excitement of Trudy Pitts!  Trudy didn’t get much recognition because she first recorded during the late period of the original Prestige era c 1967-68, but she was an intriguing stylist on the organ with a unique approach to Soul Jazz – more melodic and groovy.

This side is probably the best of her four LPs on Prestige – this one cut live before a small and appreciative audience (the diehards in May 1968!). Wilbert Longmire is killer on the guitar, and Trudy sticks strictly to the organ (her singing being a bit of an acquired taste on her other albums; borderline lounge, unfortunately) on these four extended workouts.
