Tutorial: bolso de verano con bolsillo / Tutorial: summer bag with pocket

Hace unos meses comenzó su andadura un nuevo proyecto, BCN Fabrics: crean telas para patchwork y costura con diseños exclusivos realizados especialmente por diseñadores locales. La idea me parece estupenda y su primera colección, que podéis ver aquí, me encanta. Me han enviado unas muestras de sus preciosas telas y como son tan alegres y veraniegas he decidido hacer un bolso y un neceser para estas vacaciones.
A few months ago a new project started, BCN Fabrics: they make fabrics for patchwork and sewing with exclusive designs made specially by local designers. I think this idea is great and I love their first collection, which you can see here. They have sent me some samples of their beautiful fabrics and, as they are so fun and summery, I have decided to make a purse and a toilet bag for these vacations. 


Necesitamos telas, hilo y entretela gruesa para darle cuerpo al bolso. A mi me gusta la que se aplica con el calor de la plancha.
We need some fabrics, thread and thick interlining to give shape to the purse. I like the one that is applied with the heat of the iron.

1- He utilizado dos telas para el exterior del bolso y una para el interior, además de la del bolsillo. Así que he cortado:
1- I have used two fabrics for the outside of the bag and other for the inside, besides the one for the pocket. So I have cut:

2- Para la parte exterior del bolso, cosemos los rectángulos de cada lado entre sí, cosemos ambas partes colocándolas derecho con derecho y ponemos la entretela.
2- For the outside, sew the rectangles of each side together, then sew both parts matching their right sides and add the interlining.


3- En cuanto al forro, empezamos colocando el bolsillo, después cosemos ambos lados como hemos hecho antes con las telas exteriores y ponemos la entretela.
3- As for the lining, start by placing the pocket, next sew both sides as you have done before with the outer fabrics and place the interlining.
Para lograr un bolsillo perfecto seguimos estos pasos:

• Una vez tengamos la pieza del bolsillo, con margen de costura, la sobrehilamos.
• A continuación doblamos dos veces el borde superior y le pasamos un pespunte.
• Después cortamos las esquinas de la parte inferior del bolsillo y, con los márgenes de costura laterales doblados hacia dentro, la cosemos a la pieza donde lo vamos a montar, encarando de nuevo derecho con derecho.
• Finalmente, planchamos el bolsillo hacia arriba y cosemos el contorno (excepto la parte de arriba) lo más cerca posible del borde de la siguiente forma:

To get a perfect pocket follow these steps:

• Once you have the piece of the pocket, with seam allowance, overcast it.
• Then fold twice the top edge and make a backstitch.
• Next cut the corners of the lower part of the pocket and, with the side sewing allowance folded inside, sew it to the piece where you are going to assemble it, matching again their right sides.
• Finally, iron the pocket upwards and sew the edge (except the upper side), as closer as possible to  the edge, this way:

4- Ahora confeccionamos las asas: colocamos la entretela, planchamos los márgenes de costura hacia dentro, doblamos y planchamos las piezas por la mitad y las cosemos. Yo he hecho un pespunte al otro lado para que quede más bonito.
4- Now, it is time to make the handles: place the interlining, iron the seam allowances inside, fold and iron the piece in half and sew it. I made a backstitch at the other side so it look prettier.

5- Para hacer la base del bolso, dibujamos en las esquinas inferiores del bolso exterior y del forro unos cuadrados de 5 cm x 5 cm. (así obtendremos una base de 10 cm). Después doblamos las puntas como veis en las fotos, cosemos por la línea dibujada y cortamos la punta.
5- To make the base of the bag, draw at the lower corners of the outside bag and of the lining some squares of 2’’ x 2’’ (this way you will obtain a base of 3,9’’). Then fold the ends as you see in the photos, sew along the line and cut the end.

6- Para terminar, vamos a montar el bolso. Debemos marcar donde van las asas (yo las he puesto a 15 cm. de las costuras laterales). A continuación ponemos el forro del revés y dentro de él la tela exterior del derecho, haciendo coincidir las costuras laterales. Ponemos las asas por dentro, entre una tela y otra. Cosemos rematando las asas y dejando un hueco para darle la vuelta, que cerraremos con un pespunte a lo largo del borde del bolso.
6- Finally, let’s assemble the bag. You must mark where the handles must be placed (I placed them at 5.9’’ form the side seams). Place the handles inside, between one fabric and the other. Finish the handles off but leave a gap, to turn the inside out, which you will close later with a backstitch along the bag edge.
