(ENGLISH AHEAD) Hoy me duele la espalda como nunca, tengo trabajo pendiente apilado, por mi escritorio ha pasado un tsunami y en mi ciudad empiezan las fiestas de(l) pueblo, nunca mejor dicho. Por si fuera poco, esta tarde me traen al perro de mi suegra para quedarse una semanita. A ver, el perro es una monada, pero ya se me había olvidado eso de levantarme a las 6 de la mañana para sacar al can a hacer sus cosas. Y encima, estoy de rodríguez. Comprenderán ustedes que me queda poco tiempo y, sobre todo, poco espacio cerebral para ocuparme de asuntos mucho más trascendentales para la humanidad como los de Fukushima o Libia. Ya lo dijo Humphrey Bogart en Casablanca: "el mundo se derrumba y tú y yo nos enamoramos" -traducido a versión whatyouremissing: "con la que hay montada y a ti te quedan todavía dos planchas...(y no te olvides de comprar antical para la lavadora)"
Bueno, Grant-Lee Phillips me ha echado una manita: "Venga, hombre, que siempre hay un lado positivo", al más puro estilo Monty Python en lo que a la letra se refiere. La canción me encanta, y el disco más, sobre todo porque he descubierto a Phillips hace poco -recomiendo su Mona Lisa- y no paro de escucharlo. Este californiano, rockero, intimista, setentero, ochentero y noventero y actual tiene todo para emocionarte. Empezando por Good Morning Happiness y acabando por The Sun Shines On Jupiter, el disco recorre muchos estados de ánimo pero nunca deprime. En Strangest Thing nos dice algo así como: "no sé a santo de qué, pero cuando peor me van las cosas, resulta que siempre encuentro algo positivo". Pues le pasará a él, porque mira que a mí me cuesta... (no sé qué pensará un japonés, hoy) No obstante, el tema es de los de buen rollito. Bueno, y lo mejor, la fuerza que tiene musicalmente, perfecto para elevar la moral.
Por cierto, me han dicho que el estar de rodríguez tiene muchas ventajas... Ya les contaré.

Today my back aches more than usual, there's a lot of work piling up on my desk, which looks like Japan after the tsunami. And the old-fashioned local festivities in my town are starting as well. What's more, my mother-in-law's dog is coming for a week. It's not that I don't like dogs, and this one's really cute, but I just can't help thinking about the inconvenient walk at 6 am that I'll be facing for the next days. To top it all, I'll be baching this week. It's not hard to understand how little time and room I have left in my brain to deal with much more significant events for mankind such as Fukushima or Libya. As Humphrey Bogart said in Casablanca: "With the whole world crumbling, we pick this time to fall in love" -whose translation into whatyouremissing code may be: "with the whole world crumbling.. and you still have to do the ironing... (and don't forget to buy some washing powder)"
Let's say that Grant-Lee Phillips has lent me a hand: "Hey, man, there's always a bright side" -quoting Montty Python's popular motto. I love the song, and the album even more, especially because I've recently come to know the guy -don't miss his Mona Lisa-, and I just can't stop listening to it. The Californian rock artist sounds so intimist, 70ish, 80ish, 90ish and funny though, so present, that it has everyhting to get you thrilled with emotion. From Good Morning Happiness to the last track The Sun Shines On Jupiter, the album passes through a variety of moods, but it never turns depressing. Strangest Thing is a hymn to the surprising moments when hope comes out of the darkest moments, unexpectedly. He says so, though I particularly find it hard to spot those moments (ask a Japanese today). Nevertheless, the tune is into the 'good vibes' category and its strength lies on his musical perfection, able to uplift your everyday-battered mood. And that seems no strange to me at all.
By the way, I've been told that baching might have a good deal of advantages. I'll tell you next week.
