I'll start off by saying that I live just 6 miles away from the FIB site and I am not going to be there this year. My hyperacousis won't let me endure the overdose of decibels. It's not that I am hearing impaired, -way the opposite- I hear too well. That is I am so lucky that I am able to go to a concert and receive the full range of frequencies coming through the loudspeakers, so there is not a single sound from a guitar, bass, drum or keyboard that I could possibly miss. My hyperstimulated brain happens to consider this threshold of perception a virtual agression, an acoustic virus coming in from which a straight defense is needed in the form of different sorts of counterattacks such as vertigo, headaches and irritating tinnitus. You may call me an idiot as well as weak when I tell you that not only this year will I not make it to the festival but I have never ever been there either. Well, it is just that masses and heat altogether are not my cup of tea.
This year's International Festival (FIB) is becoming more LOcal (FLOB), since the organisers have called four bands from around the province to join the show for the first time. Let's start with Conecta4, a band from Castellón de la Plana, born from the remains of Fluor Kin, whose lead singer and bassist David Hernández is also one of the heads behind the most remarkable media project in the area, the website nomepierdoniuna.net. The group are into a very powerful, electric pop path that is deeply rooted in the melodic local indie sound of the nineties, but they have successfully updated it to a fresher point. I had the chance to see them live at Petit Festival in Vall d'Uixó (Spain) last september and I got thrilled to death (so were my ears, literally). I am sure the band will take the breath away of hundreds next July 11th at the Villacamp stage as the tracks of their last work, Silencios, are getting played. I won't be there but I will enjoy it on my iPod, because -as the song title reads- it's no use getting sad about certain things.
