When she was 16 years she married Martín de Alzaga, who was 45 years older than her. Shortly after their two children died at an early age, Martín de Alzaga dies, leaving Felicitas as a widow at the age of 24. After mourning her late husband se became involved in a romantic relation with Enrique Ocampo, but finally decides to marry another one of her suitors, Manuel Sáenz Valiente. In a pang of jealousy, Enrique Ocampo shot Felicitas in the back and killed her. Her parents erected the church in her honour.
