Los Estados de la Materia (y algunas variaciones) – Matter States (and some variations)

Esta semana hemos empezado a aprender los estados de la materia. Preparé la bandeja que véis arriba para introducir los conceptos de una manera concreta para más adelante poder trabajar con las ideas abstractas de sólido, líquido y gas.

Alejandro prestó bastante atención (más de la que yo esperaba!); estuvo tocando la roca, el agua y decició que no merecía la pena abrir el tercer tarro para tocar el aire (tuve que darle la razón, porque en realidad, estamos tocando el aire todo el tiempo, no?).

Pero pronto decidió que quería hacer algo más divertido como mojar la roca con el agua, así que le dije que podíamos salir a la terraza a limpiar algunas de las rocas que tenemos en las macetas. Estuvo un rato limpiando las rocas con agua y un cepillo, y después se le ocurrió pintar en el suelo con el agua, así que le propuse dibujar el contorno de las rocas con el dedo mojado (una estupenda preparación para la escritura).

Creo que en conjunto hicimos una actividad muy completa y como habéis visto, gran parte de ella fue surgiendo de las ideas que Alejandro proponía; un buen ejemplo de uno de los principios Montessori: “Seguir al niño”

This week we started learning the states of matter. I prepared the tray that you see above to introduce the concepts in a concrete way for later work with the abstract ideas of solid, liquid and gas.

Alejandro paid enough attention (more than I expected!); he enjoyed touching the rock, the water and he decided it was not worth opening the third jar to touch the air (I had to agree with him, because in reality, we are touching the air all the time, right?).

But he soon decided he wanted to do something more fun and wet the rock with water, so I said we could go out to the terrace to clean up some of the rocks we have in the pots. He spent some time cleaning the rocks with water and a brush, and then came to paint on the floor with water, so I proposed to draw the outline of the rocks with a wet finger (great preparation for writing).

I think overall we did a very complete activity and as you have seen, much of it was coming out of the ideas proposed by Alejandro, a good example of one of the Montessori principles: “Follow the Child”
