The Bicenntenial Museum was opened very recently. On the 24th of May 2011 it opened its doors, as part of the celebrations of the 200 years of the May Revolution 1810 and the first steps taken in the long road towards independence from Spanish rule. The museum is in the location where the Fort of Buenos Aires and then subsequently the Taylor Customs Building stood. It can be found just metres away from the House of Government, the Casa Rosada.
The Museum shows the last 200 years of Argentine history (1810 - 2010). It opens from Wednesday thorugh to Sundays, and during all bank holidays, from 10:00 till 18:00 hs (these times correspond to April - November). It has a permanent collection as well as temporary thematic collections which are included from time to time. The audio visual material is the most interesting, and will allow the visitor, in about one hour, to get a short but concise overview of the historic trends and main landmarks of Argentine history. These are complemented with different archealogical and historic items. It would appear to be quite a modern museum. There is a coffee shop and restaurant where visitors can just relax and enjoy the scene while having a drink or something to bite into.
