The "Palacio Municipal" was built between the year 1890 and 1893. The construction was ordered by the then local government leader of the city of Buenos Aires, Francisco Bollini. This building is the venue of the government of the city of Buenos Aires. It is located in front of the "Plaza de Mayo", beside the building of the "Cabildo", and across the street from the Metropolitan Cathedral. It was built with the debris of the mansion of the Suberbuhler family. The mansion was expropriated by the government and demolished in order to build the Avenida de Mayo.
In the photographs below you will see the two most valuable paintings which are on the walls of the Palacio Municipal: "Preparativos de Salida" by Benito Quinquela Martín and "La Fundación de Buenos Aires" by Moreno Carbonero. Also, interesting to note, is the portrait of José de San Martín. This is apparently the most representative protrait of how the "Liberator of America" looked like. The general image that everyone has of José de San Martín is very different. In most of its protraits he is given more European features.
The buidling can be visited with a guide on Saturdays at 16:00 and 17:00, and on Sundays from 11:00 to 16:00 (One tour every hour). These are free.
