“Tampon commercial, detergent commercial, maxi pad commercial, windex commercial - you'd think all women do is clean and bleed.”Gone Girl
It's a long time since my last entry in the blog, and the reason has been the lack of good readings. During this time of absence, I couldn't find any book interesting enough to share with you. Well, there is a time for everything, books included. When I decided to read Gone Girl, I have no hope, due to my recent bad luck with my literary choices, but I must admit that I was fascinated from the first page. Brilliant and attractive from the beginning, the author, Gillian Flynn, gives us little clues of a couple's life, taking as starting point the vanishing of the woman. Nick, the husband, tells the story from the day when his spouse disappears. And Amy, the wife, through a personal diary, tells us every detail about her life from the day she met Nick. We, readers, pass from loving one and despising the other; then, we change our opinion about them; later, we are not sure about what to think about this couple. It's a brilliant and perverse puzzle, which reminds me of my dear Stephen King, especially the great construction of characters and plot, added to an intense analysis of couple relations. An essential thriller.
