The Red Balloon, by Albert Lamorisse, is one of my favourite French movies. It only lasts about 30 minutes and it’s perfect to see with children during the Christmas holidays. It’s about a boy and a red balloon that begins to follow the boy everywhere. This film won the Oscar for best original screenplay in 1956, and it’s amazing considering it hardly has any dialogues! The main character is Pascal, who happens to be Albert Lamorisse's son. His daughter, Sabine, is also in the scene with the blue balloon. This ethereal story about the boy and the balloon in the grey Paris of the 1950s is just charming.
El globo rojo, de Albert Lamorisse es una de mis películas francesas preferidas (realmente es un mediometraje). Es perfecta para ver con los niños durante las vacaciones de Navidad. Trata de un niño y de un globo rojo que lo sigue a todas partes. Esta película ganó el Oscar al mejor guión original en 1956, y eso que casi no tiene diálogos. El protagonista es Pascal, hijo del director. También aparece Sabine, su hija, en una escena con un globo azul. Esta historia etérea sobre el niño y el globo en el París gris de los años 50 tiene mucho encanto.
