Si existe una prenda que con tan sólo ponérnosla nos eleve a la máxima categoría de elegancia sin más es el vestido lápiz. Eso sí ha de ser en la talla y largo correctos o caeremos al otro lado de la delgada línea y nos veremos mal vestidas en vez de distinguidas.
If there’s a piece of clothing that you just have to slip on and get elevated to the maximum elegance category is the pencil dress. But not just any pencil dress; it has to be the right size and length or we risk falling on the other side of the line where we can give an ill fitting image.
El término lápiz viene por el corte de este tipo de vestido que celebra (y mejora) al 100% las curvas de la figura femenina. ¡Sí, esas que tanto amor-odio provocan, chicas! (Y que yo pienso que hay que pulir y lucir). Si aún no tienes uno es hora de ir a buscarlo ahora que hay rebajas (en los enlaces os he puesto algunos rebajados de Hybrid, una de las tiendas Londinenses que hace los que más me gustan y que creo que no se pueden encontrar en ningún otro sitio pero que envían a todo el mundo). Debería ser un básico de tu armario ya que te puede librar de un compromiso elegante en un segundo o de un lunes de madrugón y sin pensar demasiado. Tan sólo hay que seguir unas reglas y truquitos de estilo y elegancia y este vestido se va a convertir en tu mejor amigo (¡a mi es que me ENCANTA!) Venga, vamos allá a ver algunos de mis favoritos y los tips para llevarlos.
The term ‘pencil’ comes from the cut of this type of dress which 100% celebrates (and improves) the curves of the female body. Yes, ladies, all those curves that we equally love and hate! (And which I think we should polish and show). If you don’t have one, now, with the sales, it’s the time to go and find yours (below I’ve linked to some of the ones at Hybrid, a London shop that makes some of my favourites and which I think you can’t find anywhere else but they do ship worldwide). It should be a wardrobe staple because it can rescue you in a second from a formal dress event or from a lazy Monday morning without requiring too much thought. La combinación de esas mangas angélicas con el escote en V pueden producir más de un esguince de cuello. Este no está rebajado pero es que es mi número uno especialmente por el corte que os comentaba. Si quieres una alternativa rebajada prueba con este y también con cualquiera de estos.
Ideal for a party for a Spring woman (light, warm and saturated colouring). The combination of those angel-like sleeves and the V neckline can produce more than one neck dislocation. This one is not reduced but I couldn’t let it pass because it’s my number one. If you want a discounted alternative, try the other two links above. - Luxe Crepe Alexa Crossover Detail Dress Cream – Este es el que más me gusta para las más discretas y que puede ser usado tanto en una reunión de trabajo como en las copas del viernes noche. Tiene un estilo impecable y el crepé es ¡TAN elegante! Además es un tono muy neutral que puede ser llevado por mujeres de cualquier estación (¡bingo!) y el corte es más amable (¡doble bingo!) Y, por si fuera poco, ¡está rebajado! No puedo pedir más.
This one is my favourite for the more discreet of you, and it can be used both in the board room and out at the Friday night drinks. It’s got an impecable cut and the crepe fabric is SO ELEGANT! The colour can also be worn by women in all 4 seasons (bingo!) and the cut is very flattering (double bingo!) But if these weren’t enough it’s also on sale. You can’t ask for more! - Marquee Cap Sleeve Dress with Lace Skirt Cream with Black – He aquí el vestido hecho para las elegantes mujeres invierno. El contraste blanco/negro es ideal para tí pero es que además la línea en V entre la parte de arriba y la falda te va a acentuar la cintura un montón. Una alternativa PRECIOSA y rebajada sería este.
And here’s the dress made for the most elegant Winter women. The black/white contrast is ideal for you while the V line between the top and the skirt will give you a killer waist. A gorgeous and reduced alternative is also in the second link above. - Brooklyn Lace Dress Mint - Si eres un verano (coloración clara, fría y suave) este es sin duda tu vestido. Lo que más me gusta, a parte del color, son sus mangas y el corte tan clásico que tiene que lo hacen ideal incluso para la oficina durante los meses de calor! Es un vestido más de día y además está a mitad de precio
If you’re a Summer (light, cool, soft colouring) this is your dress without a doubt. My favourite thing, besides the colour, are the sleeves and the classic cut that make it perfect even for the office during the hot months. It’s a more daytime dress and it’s half price right now! :) - Agyness V Neck Contrast Lace Dress Sand with Black - Mujer otoño (sobretodo si eres suave) te presento tu vestido. El tono melocotón lo hace muy discreto y suave pero a la vez te va a vestir como a una reina. El diseño angular en la zona del vientre va a disimular muy bien si tienes algo de barriguita y el corte del escote es perfecto para cualquier tamaño de pecho ya que no enseña demasiado pero tampoco deja indiferente. Sin embargo este es mejor para un evento social que para el trabajo ya que el escote puede ser excesivo para el entorno laboral
Autumn lady (especially is you’re soft) here I introduce you to your dress. The peach tone makes it very discreet and soft but that won’t stop it from dressing you like a queen. The angular design on the stomach area is going to flatter you a lot even if you’ve got a bit of tummy, and the neckline is perfect for any chest size because it’s not overly revealing but it also won’t cover you up completely. However this is a better dress for a social event since the neckline could be a bit excessive for the office. ;)

How to Wear a Pencil Dress
- Los vestidos lápiz son amantes de nuestra figura. La talla tiene que ser perfecta, ni muy estrecha que quede vulgar ni muy grande que te haga bolsas. Si no estás segura de la talla ve siempre por una un poco más grande y haz que un modista te lo ajuste con dos o tres golpes de aguja.
Pencil dresses are figure lovers. Sizing has to be perfect, too tight and it can look tasteless, too big and it can look baggy. If you’re not sure of your size always choose a slightly bigger one and get a taylor to adjust it with a couple of needle strokes. - Lo bueno de estos vestidos es que suelen ser forrados (ideal para suavizar la figura) y en telas gruesas que mejoran mucho nuestra línea (no se pegan de las irregularidades ni transparentan lo que no deben). Si aun así sientes que necesitas más control para dar un acabado súper pulido a tu figura te recomiendo ropa interior de control o una faja fina de soporte. Siempre en el color que más se parezca a tu piel para evitar transparencias delatoras.
The good thing about these dresses is that they’re normally lined (perfect to soften the figure) and made of thicker fabrics which improve our line (they don’t cling or are seethrough). If you still feel you need more control to achieve a super elegant, polished line I’d recommend control underwear. Wear it always on the colour closest to you skin to avoid tell-tale situations. - La forma clásica de llevar un vestido lápiz es con zapatos de salón negros. Pero si quieres salirte de la norma y poner de manifiesto que tú eres una marcadora de tendencias, ¡prueba a llevarlo con unos botines de tobillo! Eso sí, mantenlos en un tono neutro como el negro, marrón o nude. Los botines llaman mucho la atención ¡y no queremos que le quiten protagonismo a tu vestido!
The classic way of wearing this dress is with black pumps. But if you want to spice your outfit up and show that you’re a trend setter, try ankle booties! Keep them neutral in black, brown or nude because they will get a lot of attention and we don’t want them competing with your dress!
