Beautiful & Interesting Bridges: Puente de los Santos, Spain

La verdad es que el Puente de los Santos, sobre la Ría de Ribadeo o del Eo, no me llama particularmente la atención, la verdad, lo que no deja de ser irónico en una serie sobre “Beautiful &Interesting Bridges” pero en este caso he querido incluirlo por todo lo que tiene alrededor.
En fin, para empezar tiene un carácter simbólico innegable, ya que es el puente que une dos comunidades autónomas, Galicia y Asturias.
Y ve el capitán pirata, cantando alegre en la popa, Ribadeo a un lado, al otro Castropol, Y allá a su frente … el Eo

Y además lo hace en la desembocadura del río Eo, es decir, que detrás del puente lo que hay es ya el Mar Cantábrico. Desde luego la vista desde ahí arriba tiene que ser bastante espectacular, aunque yo me conformé con visitar Ribadeo (queda muy cerquita de la impresionante Playa de las Catedrales, de la cual hablé hace tiempo) y ver Castropol allá en la otra orilla. El puente actual es de 1987.
La Ría tiene 10 km de longitud y unos 800 metros de anchura y está alimentada también por otros ríos. To be frank, the truth is that the Los Santos Bridge, over the Ribadeo Ria, also known as the River Eo Ria does not attract my attention in particular. Which might be a bit ironic considering I am writing onit in a series I have called Beautiful & Interesting Bridges, but I wanted to include because of all that surrounds it.
Well, to start with it has an undeniable symbolic character, since it links two Autonomous Regions in Spain,Galicia and Asturias. Ribadeo is the town on Galicia’s side, Castropol the one on Asturias’. Ribadeo is very close to the gorgeous Cathedrals Beach, I wrote a post about it some time ago. It does so over the river mouth of the Eo, which means that on the other side of the bridge we have the Cantabrian Sea (Bay of Biscay). The views from up there must be spectacular, though I only visited Ribadeo and saw Castropol  from the other side. This bridge was opened in 1987.
The ria –in case you are not familiar with the concept of ria, visit this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ria-  is 10 Km long and about 800 m wide and has several beaches. A good excuse to visit the border between these two regions… And just as I am finishing this post I realised taht I don't have any other picture than the one above...
