(El texto en español está un poco más abajo) Hi guys! How’s December treating you? Today’s the third day of Blogmas and we’re talking books! If you missed yesterday’s post, you should check it out. I talked about my favourite Christmas movie, which to be honest, is a lot easier than talking about my favourite themed book.
I’m a bookworm, and I was even more so as a kid. I love reading and finding myself in new places, characters and situations. I’m pretty sure I’ve read plenty of holiday-themed books back in the day. I mean, A Christmas Carol is definitely a classic that I loved even though it was mandatory for me to read in school. But I don’t think I have a Christmas-specific book that I love. Instead, there’s a story and a chapter from a book that comes to my mind.
The tale that I thought about instantly is rather sad. So incredibly sad. I genuinely avoided reading any lines from the book while I was taking pictures because it reminded me of the storyline. It’s Andersen’s The Little Match Girl (in Danish “Den Lille Pige med Svovlstikkerne“) and it’s a story my mom used to read to me from a book of nighttime stories. It tells the story of a poor young girl, shivering and barefoot, that tries to sell matches in the street. But no one sees her, no one aids her, and she’s afraid to go home to her abusive dad without selling a match. What can she do? It’s New Year’s Eve and the whole town is inside their homes, with their families, something she observes from the distance with the melancholy of someone who hasn’t known that. She tries to warm up by lighting the matches until there aren’t any left, and she passes away from the cold. Just trying to describe it without getting into details brings tears to my face. It really touched me as a kid, and the illustrations are amazing.

I loved the Secret Santa situation and when Patrick tells Charlie that “all great writers used to wear suits all the time“, which is why he got him that. That chapter also includes one of my favourite poems, but it’s not holiday-related.

¡Buenos días, chicas! ¿Cómo van estos primeros días de diciembre? ¡Hoy es el tercer día de Blogmas y toca hablar sobre libros! Si te perdiste la publicación de ayer, te la dejo por aquí para que le eches un vistazo. Hablé de mi película navideña favorita, que para ser honesta, fue mucho más fácil que hablar sobre mi libro favorito del mismo tema.
Adoro leer libros, y lo era incluso más de pequeña. Me encanta leer y encontrarme en lugares, personajes y situaciones nuevos. Estoy bastante segura de que he leído muchísimos libros de temática navideña en el pasado. Un Cuento de Navidad es un clásico que me encantó, a pesar de que me obligasen a leerlo en el colegio. Pero no creo que tenga un libro de Navidad específico que me encante. En cambio, hay un cuento y un fragmento de un libro que me recuerdan a ello.
La primera historia que me viene a la mente es bastante triste. Muy, muy triste. Ya os digo que evité leer las líneas del libro mientras sacaba fotos porque me recordaban a la historia. Es La Niña De Los Fósforos de Andersen (en danés “Den Lille Pige med Svovlstikkerne”) y es una historia que mi madre solía leerme de un libro de cuentos para dormir. Cuenta la historia de una niña pobre, tiritando y descalza, que intenta vender fósforos en la calle. Pero nadie la ve, nadie la ayuda, y tiene miedo de volver a casa con su padre, que la maltrata, sin haber vendido un fósforo. ¿Qué puede hacer ella? Es Nochevieja y todo el mundo está dentro de sus casas, con sus familias, algo que ella observa con la melancolía de no haber conocido eso en vida. Intenta entrar en calor encendiendo los fósforos hasta que ya no quedan, y fallece a causa del frío. Solo tratar de describirlo sin entrar en detalles me da ganas de llorar, así que imaginad leerlo. Me conmovió y marcó mucho de pequeña, y las ilustraciones son increíbles.

Me encanta el momento en el que hacen Secret Santa y Patrick le dice a Charlie que le compró un traje porque “todos los grandes escritores solían usar traje todo el tiempo“. Ese capítulo también incluye uno de mis poemas favoritos, pero no está relacionado con las la Navidad.
