Bobby Joe Hawkins
EAST FISHKILL - Bobby Joe Hawkins, 74, an area resident since 1992, died Jan. 18, 2022 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Washington, DC on August 15, 1947, he was the son of Robert and Bertha Hawkins. Bobby proudly served our country in the United States military and was employed as a correctional officer for the New York State Department of Corrections at Downstate Correctional Facility for 25 years until his retirement in 1996.
Bobby enjoyed playing chess and dominoes, shooting at the shooting range, traveling and watching westerns. He loved God and also appreciated good food, especially good Jamaican food.
On September 22, 1999 in Fishkill, Bobby married Madge Edwards who survives the home. He is also survived by his sons, Cordos Hawkins and Jarett Hawkins; his daughter, Danhl Hawkins; her daughter-in-law, Susan Mohr and her husband Mark; her stepson, Amando Downer; his grandsons, Gabriel Hawkins and Justin Lewis; his sister, Verna Hawkins; and her great friends, Joanet Johnson, Maud Edwards (aka Loris), Marva Rose, Angela Clarke and Ingrid Hibbert. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Stanley, Anthony and Paul Hawkins; and her great friend, Gwendalyn Johnson.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 2 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Funeral service will be at noon with interment to follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
