Cream: sunshine of your love

Una noche fue suficiente para que la inspiración hiciera de las suyas. Corría el año 1967 cuando, tras asistir con su compañero Eric Clapton a un concierto de Jimi Hendrix en Londres, Jack Bruce da forma a una de las secciones de bajo más célebres de la historia. A lo largo de otra noche, escriben la letra él y Pete Brown, artista  que colabora habitualmente con la banda —un año después haría lo propio con White Room, otro clásico total y absoluto—. Únicamente falta el estribillo y de ello se encarga Clapton, aunque no sabemos si también sucede al amparo de la oscuridad y de la vigilia. De esta manera se compone Sunshine of Your Love, uno de los temas más representativos del supergrupo Cream.
Grabado en los Atlantic Studios de la ciudad de Nueva York, e incluido en el segundo álbum de los británicos, Disraeli Gears (1967), se convirtió en su primer éxito en Estados Unidos. Y eso que su incursión entre las diez primeras posiciones de los ránquines no fue inmediata y no se produjo hasta el verano del 68 coincidiendo con el lanzamiento de Wheels of Fire, el siguiente trabajo de estudio y el de la citada White Room.
