El Árbol del Tule

  

El viaje a Oaxaca estuvo lleno de paradas. Hay varios lugares de los cuales aún no les he hablado y hoy quiero hablarles especialmente de uno que es una parada obligada para los amantes de la botánica: el famoso Árbol del Tule (sí, con mayúscula).
Es bien sabido que México es uno de los 3 países  megadiversos del mundo (junto con Estados Unidos y Colombia) con salidas al Atlántico y al Pacífico. Así pues, encontrarse con el árbol de mayor diámetro (14.05m) del mundo no sorprende tanto...hasta que se ve en vivo.
Desde niña había oído hablar de él pero en realidad, nunca llegué a imaginar lo imponente que sería tenerlo enfrente. Y es que en un ahuehuete de una altura aproximada de 40 metros y un tronco de unos 42 metros. Según nos comentó el guía, se cree que se necesitarían al menos 30 personas para rodearlo y que bajo su sombra podrían cubrirse unas 500 (para muestra, observen en las fotos el tamaño de las personas al lado del árbol). Impresionante.
Mi desconocimiento de su ubicación me hacía creer que estaba en medio de una zona arbolada, pero no. Está en el atrio del templo de Santa María del Tule, a unos 12 km de la ciudad de Oaxaca. Y según se estima, ha estado ahí desde hace ¡más de 2000 años!
En el siglo XIX sufrió por una escasez de agua, de la cual se han encargado de librar a esta reliquia viviente, gracias a un sistema de riego que mantiene hidratado permanentemente al árbol.
Pasearse alrededor de la cerca deja boquiabiertos a todos. Las ramas llegan hasta el piso, miles de pájaros se escuchan cantar y se hace presente la sensación de que todas las fotos que se le tomen son insuficientes para abarcarlo por completo.
Así pues, en un entorno netamente tradicional, se mantiene imponente y majestuoso este testigo de la grandeza de México.
