El ambiente preparado es un punto esencial de la filosofía Montessori, y es algo que podemos hacer en casa desde el nacimiento, o incluso antes; qué mejor manera de dar la bienvenida al bebé que preparando una habitación en la que pueda descansar, aprender, jugar y desarrollarse de la mejor manera posible?

Uno de los detalles que más llaman la atención en una habitación Montessori es la ausencia de la tradicional cuna con barrotes. En su lugar se utiliza una cama de suelo, que por una parte permite al bebé una visión del entorno sin obstáculos y por otra parte le posibilita subir y bajar de la cama cuando lo desee. Por supuesto, este tipo de habitación debe estar totalmente acondicionada para que el bebé pueda explorarla sin peligro.
Otro detalle importante es la organización de los juguetes, que se exponen en estanterías bajas, accesibles para el bebé y en las que cada cosa tiene su lugar. Esto favorece en el bebé el orden y la independencia ya que le permite elegir con qué quiere jugar sin necesidad de pedirlo, y de manera espontánea el bebé aprende a colocar cada juguete a su lugar.
El espejo es otro elemento importante, se sitúa de modo que el bebé pueda verse reflejado cuando está tumbado o sentado en el colchón o en el área de juego, y le proporciona horas de contemplación de su propia imagen, lo cual también le ayuda indirectamente a desarrollar los diferentes movimientos del cuerpo.
Es importante que el bebé se sienta independiente en su habitación, para ello también es conveniente instalar un pequeño perchero a su altura donde pueda colgar su bata o su albornoz, y si es posible poner parte de su ropa en los cajones que queden a su altura (sólo un par de opciones para elegir).
También es habitual colocar láminas, fotografías, obras de arte, etc, en la pared a la altura del bebé, para que pueda disfrutarlas y analizarlas con detenimiento siempre que lo desee.
Existen varios móviles Montessori, diseñados para favorecer el desarrollo de la vista en los primeros meses de vida del bebé, y más adelante para favorecer la coordinación ojo-mano. The prepared environment is an essential point of the Montessori philosophy and is something we can do at home from birth, or even before; what better way to welcome the baby than preparing a room where she can rest, learn, play and develop in the best way possible?

One of the things that attract the most attention in a Montessori bedroom is the absence of the traditional crib with bars. Instead there is a floor bed, which on one hand allows the baby an unobstructed vision of the environment and on the other hand enables her to get on and off the bed whenever she wants. Of course, this room must be fully child-proofed so the baby can explore safely.
Another important thing is the organization of toys, which are set in low shelves accessible to the baby and where everything has its place. This favors order and independence by allowing the baby to choose what she wants to use without asking, and she will spontaneously learn to place each toy in its place.
The mirror is another important element, it is positioned so that the baby can be reflected when lying or sitting on the mattress or in the play area, and provides hours of contemplation of his own image, which also indirectly helps develop different body movements.
It is important that the child feel independent in her bedroom, so it’s also advisable to install a small wall hanger at her height where she can hangher robe or bathrobe, and if possible put some of her clothes in the drawers at her height (only a couple of options to choose from).
It is also common to place photographs, artwork, etc. on the wall at the height of the baby, so she can enjoy them and analyze them carefully whenever she wants.
There are several Montessori mobiles designed to encourage the development of sight in the first months of baby’s life, and later to promote hand-eye coordination.
