La sanidad es una casa enorme con gente que entra y sale y otros que atienden. Un complejo laberinto donde miles de profesionales se afanan para sostener una institución de enormes proporciones, una de las mayores empresas nacionales diseñada con planos industriales. 

Cada vez la cola para entrar es más impresionante. Acuden enormes masas a solicitar ayuda tanto para cuestiones intrascendentes como para enfermedades graves, entorpeciendo los primeros a los segundos de forma claramente insolidaria. Han olvidado que en el mundo sanitario hay que priorizar a los más vulnerables, débiles o necesitados, arguyendo una teórica igualdad de derechos, que si bien existe debe ser matizada. 

Otra paradoja es cómo esta casa maltrata a sus profesionales. Pese a la ingente carga de trabajo y lo dificultoso que es pasarse la vida escuchando, sosteniendo y atendiendo las misarías ajenas, los gestores invisibles no tienen pudor para desplantar a sus trabajadores de todas las formas posibles. No salir del despacho y mantenerse prudentemente alejados de sus subordinados debe ayudar, que no haya nadie al mando también. Es una casa sin amo, nadie responde verdaderamente por ella. Y el político de turno con su miopía a cuatro años nunca es de fiar, sea del color que sea. 

Ahora que sabemos lo que es una pandemia quizá hayamos aprendido que merece la pena que la casa sanitaria se mantenga limpia y ordenada. Y que quizá sea inteligente tratar a los empleados como hacen en Zara o Mercadona, al menos con un poco más de dignidad. Si se terminan yendo, por mucho que pague un seguro privado, pregúntese quién le va atender cuando se ponga malo de verdad.

Healthcare is a huge house with people who come and go and others who attend. A complex labyrinth where thousands of professionals toil to sustain an institution of enormous proportions, one of the largest national companies designed with industrial plans. 

Each time the queue to get in is more and more impressive. Huge crowds come to seek help for both inconsequential matters and serious illnesses, with the former hindering the latter in a clearly unsupportive manner. They have forgotten that in the world of health care, priority must be given to the most vulnerable, weak or needy, arguing for a theoretical equality of rights, which, although it exists, must be rethinked. 

Another paradox is how this institution mistreats its professionals. Despite the enormous workload and how difficult it is to spend one's life listening to, supporting and attending to the miseries of others, the invisible managers are not shy to demean their workers in every possible way. Not leaving the office and staying prudently away from their subordinates must help, and the fact that there is no one in charge must also help. It is a house without a master, no one is really responsible for it. And the politician on duty with his four-year myopia is never to be trusted, whatever colour he is. 

Now that we know what a pandemic is, perhaps we have learned that it pays to keep the sanitary house clean and tidy. And that it might be wise to treat employees as they do in Zara or Mercadona, at least with a little more dignity. If professionals  end up leaving, no matter how much you pay for private insurance, ask yourself who is going to look after you when you get really sick.
