Agharta es la tierra santa por excelencia de la religión brahamánica. Un mito dentro de las diferentes religiones como pueden ser Camelot, la isla de Avalon, el Monte Qaf, la Atlántida, el Dorado, ... Según la tradición oriental, es un reino constituido por numerosas galerías subterráneas extendidas por toda Asia y el mundo. La capital de este nuevo mundo subterráneo, denominada Shambala, se encontraría bajo el desierto de Gobi, y allí gobernaría aún el Rey del nuevo mundo.

Como curiosidades:

• Durante el tercer Reich (1938-1939) una expedición nazi fue envidad al Tíbet al mando de Ernst Shaeffer acompañado de cinco sabios alemanes y 20 miembros de la SS. Hilsher con la misión de enta de entablar lazos con los misteriosos habitantes de las cabernas del pueblo de Agartha. 
• Los nazis recibieron un documento del Consejo de Regencia que en ese entonces gobernaba al Tíbet -ya que aún no se había elegido el nuevo Dalái Lama viviente-, aceptando a Hitler como jefe de todos los arios.
• Algunas castas altas de la India saludaron al Tercer Reich inclinando las cabezas ante la presencia de la esvástica, aunque no como muestra de respeto al nazismo, sino por ser la esvástica un símbolo del siglo V a. C. que significa «buena suerte» o «forma bendita». 
• Lo cierto es como resultado de este viaje, en Berlín se instaló una comuna de monjes tibetanos.
• En "La Momia 3: la leyenda del emperador Dragon" aparece una recreación de Agartha llamada  "Shangri-la" con los yetis como guardianes de su entrada en el desierto del Gobi.
