A estas alturas del blog ya no es ningún secreto que el Lake Louise se congela en invierno. Si a esto le añadimos que los canadienses son unos locos del hokey sobre hielo es normal que aprovechen las temperaturas del invierno para hacer pistas de hielo en todas partes: en el jardín, en el centro deportivo… y evidentemente en los lagos helados.
La gente del Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise pule parte de la superficie congelada del Lake Louise haciendo un campo de hokey y una inmensa pista de patinaje donde la gente puede ir a practicar sus habilidades (aquí los nativos patinan mejor que caminan) cuando quieran y sin pagar un duro.
Nosotros tomamos prestados unos patines de unos amigos y nos fuimos a probar esto de patinar sobre hielo con Patricia, una chica alemana que trabaja con nosotros en The Post Hotel.
Es ciertamente entretenido y una buena manera de entrar en calor. Y patinar sobre la superficie del lago, rodeados de montañas, bosques y osos hibernando es espectacular, nos gustó mucho.
Coincidió con los preparativos de la competición de esculturas de hielo así que estábamos patinando por el lago mientras los escultores trabajaban el hielo justo delante del Chateau. Habrá que ir a ver el resultado.

At this point you’ve all have probably figured out that everything in Lake Louise gets frozen in the winter. If you also consider’s Canada’s passion for ice hockey, you don’t have to a genius to guess that they’ll turn any possible space into a skating rink: gardens, basketball pits, etc, and of course lakes that naturally freeze.
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise takes cares of a section of the lake clearing and polishing the surface and marking a few different areas to play hockey or for family skating. Any born Canadian learns to skate before walking because every town is got at least a rink they’re mostly free. That’s the case of the Fairmont’s.
Enrique and I borrowed some skates from friends and went to try this thing of outdoor skating with Patricia, a German girl who also works with us at The Post Hotel.
It really is fun and pretty good way to warm up. When we really think about it, skating over a frozen lake, surrounded by mountains, forests and sleeping bears is quite an experience. We loved it.
At the same time, they were setting up the yearly ice sculpting competition that the Fairmont also funds. So while we were skating there was a bunch a of artists cutting blocks of ice with their chainsaws and hammering their chisels. We should come back to check the final results. Enrique & Marina
