Restaurant Dray Martina at Salesas
It took me several walks passing in front of this restaurant wanting to try it, until I finally had the opportunity to do so. Dray Martina is a place I would call "multimoment", by its decoration, the menu and its timetable; you can start the day there with a coffee and finish it on weekend with a late drink. The decoration is carried out by Madrid in Love who are creators of other spaces like the ice cream parlour Mistura or Maricastaña, of which I will soon write about. This restaurant is very cosy and nice, to highlight are the wood details on tables and walls, the cactus and small succulent plants, different models of wicker, metal, wood and leather chairs, its fluffy yellow seats, the predominant white color, or the original lamps that softly light up the ambient, contrasting with more classical and heavy paintings on the walls, in a way that does not clash. Everything is very eco and very chic, kind of a modern rustic decoration.
As for the food, which in the end is the most important, I was surprised the menu for its variety, since among its 14 starters and 13 main courses, it offered options for all tastes and moments of the day. The food is Mediterranean with international hints, mostly French. The courses are light and offer some amazing mixtures (such as cow ham, organic spinach and cheese croquettes or the goat cheese, figs, caramelized onion and arugula coca) and to emphasize is the good quality of the raw material. I could not resist to the ceviche since I saw it was served with popcorn (that is how they really eat it in Central America) or the salmon tartare marinated with organic quinoa, which is great for smoothing out citrus and balance the flavors. As main course we tried the duck magret with pumpkin in papillote, and grapes and the Guadarrama (a sort of meat from Madrid) burger with arugula, mango, curry and Parmesan cheese. We both were delighted with the dishes, for their flavor and the size. And my favorite moment of the meal, dessert!; they have 6 proposals that I found very good and in line with the rest of the menu. Apple and plum crumble was delicious and cheese cake mousse with sautéed fruit, were our choices, but on my next visit I will definitely try the tiramisu with mascarpone ice cream and the chocolate square.
