from YouTube ICT Tac rival Shorts may soon get a dedicated button to change the voiceover of a video. Now, YouTube Shorts users rely on third-party editing apps to record voiceover for video.
As noted by XDA Developers, the video platform can add a voiceover button to the YouTube app to record a track or overlay it over an existing video. This means users won't have to depend on third-party apps to add voiceover to their Shorts video. It was spotted during a YouTube teardown for Android version 17.04.32_beta. The feature is already available on TikTok.
Youtube Shorts was released in 2020 to rival short video app TikTok. It allows YouTube users to create and share short video clips up to 60 seconds in YouTube app. Currently, users can add text to specific parts of the video, automatic subtitles, basic filters, and color correction. They can also add sounds from YouTube's library to Shorts. But if they want to add a track or voiceover to the Shorts video, they need to record it separately and then add it using third-party apps.
The voiceover button for YouTube Shorts is not active in the latest beta version of YouTube for Android. Neither company has shared any official information about it. It's likely the feature could roll out with a future beta. But there is no known timeline.
As mentioned above, YouTube Shorts was launched in September 2020. This short video tool is Google's answer to Instagram Reels and Tik Tok. Last year, the company set up a $100 million fund to reward creators for their viral videos in the 2021-2022 period. YouTube went on to say that the amount creators can earn from Shorts will depend on the viewership and engagement of their videos.
