El estilo marinero se reinventa temporada tras temporada,nunca pasa de moda es un estilo eternamente tendencia. Una tendencia que se ha convertido en todo un clásico cuando llega la época veraniega. Lo tradicional en algún momento fue una tendencia rompedora, se cree que el inicio de esta moda se puede establecer en el año 1837, en el que tuvo lugar la coronación de la reina Victoria de Inglaterra en la conocida como época victoriana. La incorporación de esta prenda a la moda también se le atribuye popularmente a Coco Chanel, quien vió a los marineros ataviados con la popular camiseta y decidió incorporarla al vestuario femenino.
El porqué del éxito de este estilo quizás esté menos definido, en su momento original puede que estuviese ligado a la imagen de valentía y heroísmo de los oficiales de la marina británica que lucían sus uniformes en un momento dorado para el Imperio Británico. Un estilo que se asocia con el ocio y las vacaciones estivales, por el que grandes diseñadores han apostado por esta tendencia tan veraniega seguramente hayan contribuido a establecer su permanencia en el tiempo.
