Como observador del Black Metal durante su etapa más expansiva, recuerdo claramente cómo el género se ramificaba más allá de Escandinavia. La importancia de esta reedición no se limita a poner de nuevo estos clásicos inencontrables en circulación. El álbum ha sido cuidadosamente restaurado y remasterizado por el propio Paul C., asegurando que su sonido conserve la ferocidad cruda de 1995, pero con una claridad óptima.

This wasn’t just Norwegian Black Metal; this was the visceral nature of Death Metal fused with the metallic temper of the First Wave—a loyalty to the original gods.

From the very first bars, the album presents itself as a brutal mix of fast bursts and heavy mid-tempo sections, confirming that «metal» was as crucial as «blackness» to the band. The rhythm section feels tight, allowing Paul C‘s vocal attack to cut through the mix with a variety that includes the characteristic Black Metal shrieks, Death Metal growls, and, occasionally, whispers that add an atmosphere of unavoidable foreshadowing. The latter is, perhaps, the most accomplished track, with an unapologetic melody that lights the way toward the more complex and fiercely melodic developments the band would explore on their next album, «Wings Of The Nightstorm».
