This rare LP features the underrated clarinetist Tony Scott and a particularly strong quartet (which includes guitarist Mundell Lowe, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Pete LaRoca) performing nine selections from the play Gypsy ; surprisingly “Let Me Entertain You” is missing. The Jule Styne score contains quite a few viable vehicles for jazz improvising and Tony Scott is heard in fine form on such numbers as “I Had a Dream,” “Some People,” “You’ll Never Get Away from Me” and “Everything’s Coming up Roses.” But this worthy album will be a difficult one to locate.
