Transpirenaica gr11 etapa 20: estaón - àreu

Salimos del refugio a las 6:15 porque sobre el papel estábamos juntando dos etapas: de Estaón a Tavascán y desde ahí hasta Àreu.


La verdad es que la etapa vuelve a ser fea y aburrida, se hace muy pesada y además el desnivel es enorme para no ver nada.

La parte más interesante fue cuando Marina encontró arándanos. Ella había leído que había arbustos de arándanos por ahí y llevaba rato buscándolos así que cuando los encontró se puso muy contenta, sacó una bolsita de plástico y empezamos a recolectar bayas para el desayuno.

Hubo momentos en los que llegamos a pasar miedo ya que hacía mucho calor, estaba todo muy seco y las nubes eran de tormenta. Además estaban desbrozando bosques con maquinaria pesada y aquello era un polvorín. Nos daba miedo que empezase un incendio forestal con nosotros correteando por el bosque.

Lo más pesado de la etapa fue la aproximación hasta el Pico de Tudela ya que el camino está muy mal marcado y está todo tapado por la hierba que ha crecido un montón este año.

Again the elevation gain and loss of the planned stage and the temperatures were going to be challenging. Besides, we wanted to complete two stages in one day so the distance would be an extra issue. This time we managed to walk through the door at 6.15 am. 

On top of that, we knew that the views will disappoint us once more. We had no expectations for the day. 

The highlight of the day was when I found wild blueberries by the trail. I read that they were an indigenous bush in the area but it was the first time we saw them. We produced a zip lock bag and picked a few for breakfast. 

During that day, we felt quite agitated because of the high temperatures, the dryness of the environment and the thunder clouds in the distance. On top, at the summit of the stage profile, the was a crew clearing the vegetation with heavy machinery. We felt in the middle of a powder keg and we didn’t want a wild fire to catch us in the middle of the mountain. 

Probably the worst part of the day was the approach to Tudela Peak because the track is very poorly marked and the dry, overgrown and prickly vegetation covers the path. 

We would have chosen not to walk this stage if we had known.
