Transpirenaica gr11 etapa 23: cabana dels esparvers - vilallobent

El principio de la etapa es muy bonito, pero se afea bastante al final, principalmente debido al tipo de camino.
Salimos de la Cabana dels Esparvers sin que el ratoncito ladrón hubiese podido comerse nada. Bien por nosotros.
Nada más empezar a caminar hay que ascender la Portella de Calm Colomer o d’Engorgs (2697 m) por un camino muy bien marcado a través de zonas con arbustos y rocas bastante grandes.
Desde la cima se veía perfectamente el Coll de Vallcivera, por donde habíamos bajado el día anterior, y como el día era claro casi se veían las Baleares y todo. Esto, por si acaso, era una exageración.
Pasado el collado descendimos hacia el Estany de la Portella y los Estanys de Minyons, que se veían muy bonitos con el sol que hacía. Las vacas que pastaban por la zona eran menos miedosas de lo habitual por lo que hubo que rodear a un par de ellas que decidieron no apartarse del camino. Ellas viven ahí todo el año, tampoco íbamos a ponernos muy pesados.
Bajando un poco más nos cruzamos con un grupo grande de franceses de la tercera edad, más de veinte, con mochilas de día que aparentemente iban guiados. Pasado un rato llegamos hasta el Refugi d’Engorgs, donde a las 12 del mediodía había 4 tiendas de campaña exactamente iguales ahí bien montadas, bolsas de basura abiertas con botellas de vino, latas de conservas… apostamos por el grupo de franceses; piensa mal y acertarás. En fin.

Seguimos caminando por la ladera del Puigpedrós hasta que llegamos al Refugi de Malniu. Nos sorprendió lo bonito que lo tienen: hay habilitada una zona de acampada, hay zonas boscosas de sombra alrededor del Estany Sec que son perfectas para hacer un picnic, tienen una zona de separación de residuos muy grande y además los guardas son muy agradables.
Después de tomar el bocadillo seguimos con la ruta hacia el Refugi de la Feixa, que hasta hace un par de años era libre pero ahora está guardado.
Menuda sorpresa con el refugio. Parece una tienda de estas hipster-like-eco-friendly-flower-power pero de las caras. Tienen comida orgánica, energía solar y buenas vibraciones por doquier.
Nosotros habíamos ido sólo a ver qué tal era porque en principio, antes de saber que ya no era un refugio libre, íbamos a pasar la noche ahí. Tuvimos la fortuna de conocer a una de las dos guardas del refugio con la que tuvimos un diálogo curioso:Enrique: ¡Hola! ¿Eres la guarda del refugio?Guarda: Supongo.Enrique: Hemos visto en el mapa que el camino hacia Guils de Cerdanya son 8 km de pista. ¿Sabes si hay algún camino más directo?Guarda: …Enrique: ¿Sabes cuánto se tarda en llegar a Guils caminando?Guarda: Una hora. Dos horas. No sé.Enrique: Veo que llevas las llaves de la furgoneta en la mano ¿vas a bajar hasta Puigcerdà?Guarda: No hago de taxista.Enrique: ¿Y si nos ponemos al lado de la pista y hacemos autostop?Guarda: No hago de taxista.Enrique: Pero si no pagamos no es taxi.Guarda: …
Supongo que esto pasa cuando los refugios se ponen demasiado cerca de la carretera, ni la guarda sabe lo que se tarda en llegar a los sitios caminando. En fin.
Bajamos caminando por la pista, bastante mal señalizada, hasta Guils de Cerdanya y desde ahí seguimos ya por la carretera de asfalto hasta Puigcerdà. 
Ahí nos encontramos con nuestro amigo Albert Herrero, el campeón de la Ronda dels Cims 2018. Esto es una de las pruebas del Andorra Ultra Trail Vall Nord, en concreto la que realiza una vuelta gigante (170 km y 13500 m de desnivel positivo y negativo) al Principado de Andorra que Albert realizó en 31 horas y 45 minutos. Enrique & MarinaPYRENEES TRAIL GR11 STAGE 22: ESPARVERS SHEPHERDS HUT - VILALLOBENT

The day started with fantastic views and walking on a wonderful landscape but today the beauty decreases as the terrain becomes more and more urban until eventually walking on tar road. 
We left the Esparvers cabin with all our food. The little hut-mouse couldn’t steal any of it. Good on us!
Soon after we climbed up to Portella of Calm Colomer also known as Engorgs Pass (2697 m) using a clearly marked path crossing a bushy area scattered with boulders. 
From the top we could clearly see Vallcivera Pass from where we descended the day before. It was such a clear day that we could see almost as far as the Balearic islands. Kidding. But the sky and the air up there was very clear and clean. 
After the pass, we descended to Estany of Portella and Estanys of Minyons (minyons means kids in Catalan and it’s a slightly out of date term but still very used in Castellers (human towers) slang). Around the lakes, there was a lot of cattle grazing. We had to walk around some of those cow as they seemed a bit more fearless than usual. That was their home, fair enough. 
A little bit further down we crossed a large group of French senior trekkers. There were about 20 of them and carried just day packs. At the end of the party, the two guides who carried slightly bigger pack but nothing too large either. We waved hi to all of them and kept going to Engorgs open hut. It was about midday and there were 4 identical tents still set by the shelter. Inside the building we found suspiciously recent bags of garbage full cans and wine bottles. We would blame those French. The hut belongs to the Catalan Federation of Hiking Clubs (FEEC) but it’s currently unavailable… This is a nonsense to us: it’s a healthy building, in the middle of the mountains, it’s open, people may need shelter there, why can’t be used? We reckon it’s unavailable because they don’t want to take any responsibility of taking care of it. 

We walked on Puigpedrós slopes until we arrived in Malniu guarded Hut. We were certainly impressed with the set up they have organised there: there was a controlled camping area, some forestal shady stops around Estany Sec (means dry) perfect to sit down and rest, a large waste disposal area with all the different containers, toilets with showers, a large carpark and of course the hut with a simple bar. There was a lot of people who gets up just for the day, have a picnic by the lake, take a little stroll and back to Puigcerdà. On top of that, the guards at the hut are very helpful and friendly. 
We had our lunch by the Estany and kept going to Feixa Hut which is now a guarded hut although two years ago it was open. 
The place turned out not to be what we expected. For us, it seemed a hipster-eco-friendly-flower-power coffee shop but of the expensive kind. They had organic food, solar energy and good vibes for anyone who wants to pay for them. 
Before we found out that it was guarded, the plan was to spend the night there with a friend who was coming over to visit. We were lucky to meet one of the guards before making the last decision:Enrique: ¡Hola! Are you the guard at the hut?Guard: I guess so.Enrique: We’ve seen that the way to Guils de Cerdanya is a 8 km rural road. Is there a shortcut?Guard: …Enrique: Do you know about how long it takes?Guard: An hours or two. We guess this is a consequence of having huts too close from the road. Not even the guard knows how long it takes to walk to town and they get sick of giving people lifts. Oh well…  
We walked the rural road, which was unsurprisingly pretty poorly marked, to Guils de Cerdanya and from there we had to follow the tar road to Puigcerdà.
In Puigcerdà we met our friend Albert Herrero who is also the winner of the ultratrail Ronda dels Cims 2018. This is one the competitions of the Andorra Ultra Trail Vall Nord, in particular he was the first in completing a giant round (170 km and 13500 m of positive and negative altitude gain/loss) around the Pyrenees Country that Albert completed in 31 hours and 45 minutes. Only 83 out of the 386 athletes who joined the race managed to get to the finish line. He also writes a blog with his stories since 2013 called cronicasdeskyrunning and we always keep a link in our blog. 
We ended the day in Vilallobent at Sendra Garcia family’s home. They kindly left us stay at their place even though they weren’t there at the moment.
