Vida Práctica: Introducción a la costura – Practical Life: Introduction to sewing

Hace unos días saqué mi caja de costura para coser una bolsa de la compra, que se había descosido por un lateral, y Sara estuvo muy pendiente de lo que hacía y muy interesada por las ajugas y los hilos de la caja de costura, así que lo tuve claro, me estaba pidiendo una actividad de introducción a la costura.

Una ventaja de los hermanos menores es que cuando necesitas algo para ellos es muy probable que ya lo tengas en casa porque lo compraste para el mayor, jeje. Tenía unas agujas de plástico y con punta redondeada que compré hace tiempo para Alejandro, así que le pude preparar la actividad en un momento.

Materiales:

• Aguja de coser de plástico (yo las compré en una mercería, son similares a éstas de Amazon)
• Malla (yo utilicé un trozo de esos tapetes que venden para escurrir los platos y proteger los cajones, pero os puede servir otro tipo de malla que sea manejable, como malla de plástico o de rafia)
• Hilo grueso o cordel (a ser posible de un color que contraste con la malla).

Presentación:

1. Antes de presentar la actividad podemos tener la aguja ya enhebrada, e incluso hacerle un nudo para que no se escape, conviene aislar la dificultad y en este caso la habilidad que vamos a trabajar es coser, en otra ocasión presentaremos cómo enhebrar la aguja.
2. Invitamos al niño a acompañarnos para ver cómo presentamos la actividad. Nos sentamos a su derecha (si somos diestros, a su izquierda si somos zurdos, para que vea bien cómo trabaja nuestra mano dominante).
3. Cogemos la aguja con nuestra mano dominante y la malla con nuestra mano no dominante, e introducimos la aguja por un agujero de la malla.
4. Sacamos la aguja por el otro lado y tiramos hasta que todo el hilo ha pasado por el agujero.
5. Introducimos la aguja por el siguiente agujero y repetimos la operación.
6. Después de dar algunas puntadas, invitamos al niño a continuar el trabajo y le mostramos dónde colocar la bandeja cuando termine.

Como veis Alejandro fue el que hizo la presentación a Sara. Al principio admito que me dio pena no hacerla yo, pero cuando vi cómo se la presentaba y la atención que ella le prestaba se me empezó a caer la baba de tal modo que se me pasó la pena completamente XD

One advantage of younger siblings is that when you need something for them it is very likely that you already have it at home because you bought it for the eldest, hehe. I had plastic needles with rounded tip that I bought long ago for Alejandro, so I could set up the activity in a moment.

Materials:

• Plastic sewing needle
• Mesh (I used a piece of those carpets that sell to drain the dishes and protect the drawers, but you can use another type of mesh, such as plastic or raffia mesh)
• Thick thread or string (if possible a color that contrasts with the mesh)

Demonstration:

1. Before presenting the activity we can have the needle already threaded, and even make a knot to keep it in place, it is necessary to isolate the difficulty and in this case the skill that we are going to work is sewiing, at another time we will show how to thread the needle.
2. We invite the child to join us to see how we demonstrate the activity. We sit to her right (if we are right-handed, to her left if we are left-handed, so she can see well how our dominant hand works).
3. We take the needle with our dominant hand and the mesh with our non-dominant hand, and we insert the needle through a hole in the mesh.
4. We pull the needle through the other side and pull until all the thread has passed through the hole.
5. We insert the needle through the next hole and repeat the operation.
6. After some stitches, we invite the child to continue the work and we show her where to place the tray when finished.

As you can see, Alejandro was the one who made the demonstration to Sara. At first I admit that I felt sorry that I wasn't doing it, but when I saw how he was doing it and the attention she was paying it I started drooling so hard that I completely forgot the pain XD
