Why I ♥ Foo Fighters

Fue 1997 cuando perdiendo el tiempo viendo MTV escuché por primera vez a los Foo Fighters, ya saben cuando MTV si pasaba videos musicales, entrevistaban a Marilyn Manson, el "twerking" no era tema de conversación, y  en general no le dedicaban tanto tiempo a los "realities".
"Monkey Wrench" era la canción, de su segundo disco "The color and the shape", ¡y en ese momento me hice fan!It was back in 1997 when I first heard the Foo Fighters. When MTV still played music, and you could see interviews with Marilyn Manson giving his insight on modern society, the times when "twerking" was unheard of, and overall "reality" was still not a reason to show off.
I was watching MTV unamused, but then "Monkey Wrench" was on... I became a FF fan right away! 
           
Gracias a la influencia musical de mi hermano, entre mi música de fondo de esas épocas, ya estaban: Metallica, Soundgarden, Depeche Mode, Radiohead y Nirvana, por lo que los Foo Fighters pronto se ganaron un lugar en mi corazón, y en momentos de ocio.Thanks to my brother's taste in music, by that time I would listen to Metallica -even though they are not among my uber favorite-, Soundgarden, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, and of course Nirvana. So the cool music of the Foo Fighters quickly gain a special place in my heart, just as in my CD and cassette players.Algunos posters de las presentaciones de los FF/ Foo Fighters gig posters via gigposters.com¡Esa voz! / That voice...La energética y melódica voz de Dave Grohl no deja de emocionarme (juro que algunas de sus canciones me hacen sentir que tengo un hueco en el alma, ¡así de plano!)y la música tan intensa siempre caracterizada por sus 2 guitarras (Chris Shiflett y Pat Smear) y la habilidad del incansable Taylor Hawkins, el baterista. Dave Grohl's voice, as energetic and melodic as always, does not cease to amaze me - I could swear that his voice in certain songs simply reminds me my soul has a tiny little crack on it! - and the music is always strong and filled with guitars , thanks to Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear, which is a perfect match for the talented and restless Taylor Hawkins. 
Atrapados en una mina / Trapped in a mine El 25 de abril del 2006,  en Tasmania Australia, un pequeño terremoto ocasionó que la mina Beaconsfield se derrumbara dejando un muerto y a dos sobrevivientes quienes lucharon por su vida durante varias semanas, Brant Webb y Tod Russell.Una vez que fue posible para el equipo de rescate comunicarse con ambos mineros, ellos pidieron ayuda, víveres, y un iPod con música de los Foo Fighters para mantener los ánimos. La noticia de esta petición llego a Dave Grohl quien escribió una carta a Webb y Russell motivándolos a no perder la esperanza, e invitándolos a uno de sus conciertos en cualquier parte del mundo una vez que fuesen rescatados. Tras conocer a uno de los mineros, Dave compuso Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners (incluida en su album "Echoes Silence Patience & Grace") como una forma de admiración y agradecimiento.

Así si recobramos la fé en la humanidad ¿no? As some of you may know already, back in April, 25th , 2006 a small earthquake caused a mine in Tasmania, Australia, to collapse. 14 miners were able to escape, but unfortunately 2 miners were trapped and another one died. Those two miners were Brant Webb and Tod Russell who fought for their lives for weeks after that. Once the rescute team was able to get closer to the miners, but still unable to remove the rocks to free them, Webb and Russell asked for food, supplies and an iPod with Foo Fighters music to keep the spirits up.The news of this request reached Dave Grohl who wrote back to the miners, and motivated them to fight for their life, as well as to invited them to a Foo Fighters concert any where in the world and couple of beers.Later on, after Dave was able to meet one of these miners, he composed Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners - included on their abum "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace"- as a way to show his gratitude and admiration. Awesome! Y todos sus seguidores corrimos a buscar los boletos de su concierto.
Conforme se acercaba la fecha de la preventa, la banda compartió fotos y videos a través de Facebook y otros medios electrónicos. El entusiasmo y la emoción de venir a México fue evidente en cada una de estas graciosas y agradables sorpresas... y eso de verdad que no tiene precio.
After 18 years of great music, awesome Live DVDs and a fun documentary ( "Back and Forth"), the Foo Fighters hinted, and then officially announced that Mexico was their next destination. For the first time my beloved rockstars would be closer to home.
The best thing about them coming to Mexico was the original and hilarious ways they found to let us - their fans- know. As the tickets release date came closer they shared pictures and videos through Facebook, Youtube and other social media, the excitement and enthusiam they felt was obvious and reciprocate... and that is simply priceless!

Poster del primer concierto de los FF en México / Finally FF in Mexico! Y así fue como el Viernes 13 de Diciembre 2013, con la expectativa acumulada por años, y en compañía de mi hermano, por fin cumplí mi sueño de escuchar a los Foos en vivo... ¡y que maravilla! Cinco días después y aun se me enchina la piel cuando recuerdo a Dave Grohl cantar Hey Johnny Park! , Best of You y Everlong (primero acapella y luego con el resto de la banda).So one of these days... and the day had come. Friday December 13th, 2013 will remain as a milestone in life, when I finally saw the Foos live and achieve to cross of an special item in my "Bucket List". What a night! I'm telling you, after 5 days, I still get the chills when I remember Dave singing Hey Johnny Park!, Best of You and Everlong - first acapella and then with the rest of the band!.¡La espera de años, valió la pena! / All these years waiting for you guys...and it was definitely worth it!
