Para los que no sepan qué es eso de la Black List, se trata de una recopilación de los mejores guiones que -basicamente por problemas de financiación- no se ruedan cada año en Hollywood. Es obra del productor Franklin Leonard (ex miembro de Appian Way, la compañía de DiCaprio), que durante los últimos meses del curso se pone en contacto con los principales ejecutivos de Hollywood para realizar una compilación de "rescatables" de entre esos proyectos que se quedan finalmente cogiendo polvo en los archivos del los grandes estudios.
Aunque la Black List toma su nombre de una herramienta culturalmente tan destructiva como fueron las listas con nombres de miembros del mundo del espectáculo susceptibles de ser afines a la causa comunista que abundaban en la caza de brujas de la década de los 50, lo cierto es que la intención de Leonard cuando publicó la primera edición en 2005 fue ayudar a esos escritores que, confiando en haber realizado un buen trabajo, no lograban ver sus películas hechas realidad. La web de Leonard incluso sirve a día de hoy como plataforma para que los escritores novatos hagan llegar sus trabajos a profesionales del sector, pero es la publicación de la Black List en diciembre la que cada año recibe mayor atención por parte de las compañías y medios especializados. Y no es para menos ya que de anteriores ediciones terminaron surgiendo proyectos como Juno, Argo, La Sombra del Poder o La Carretera.
Este año encontramos algún título ya en preproducción como The Equalizer, para el que quieren a Nicolas Winding Refn; Trascendence, que supondrá el debut en la dirección del director de fotografía ganador del Oscar Wally Pfister (TDK, Inception) con Johnny Depp liderando el reparto; o Draf Day, la más votada en 2012, que estará protagonizada por Kevin Costner y dirigirá Ivan Reitman. Incluso se ha colado en la lista un proyecto en pleno rodaje como All You Need Is Kill con Tom Cruise.
