Criado en el ghetto negro de la ciudad de Los Ángeles, tuvo una adolescencia rebelde que lo llevó a la cárcel por robar neumáticos y partes de vehículos, siendo allí donde se percató de la necesidad de cambiar de compañías y de actitud ante la vida. Un cambio de actitud que sirvió para poder encontrarse y bendecirnos con su verdadero destino en la tierra, maravillarnos con su espectacular voz. Así es Barry White, una voz aterciopelada y profunda, de vibrato bajo que acaricia los sentidos y conquista el corazón con su romanticismo. Un romanticismo latente a lo largo de una carrera de éxito, sobretodo en la década de los 70 y 80. Precursor del llamado sonido Filadelfia, influyendo y apadrinando a otros músicos, lo que le hizo alcanzar el calificativo de "El Maestro" como apodo.
