Velázquez and Phillip the 4th´s family exhibition
The Museo Nacional del Prado ensembles around 30 works of Diego Velázquez, one of Spain’s most important painters, so as some of his disciples and other coetaneous painters. This exhibition will analyze the development of Velázquez’s court portraits during the 2nd half of the XVII century, a period that saw the creation of some of the greatest of all masterpieces within this genre, such as Las Meninas.Some of his disciples´ works like Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo (who married Diego Velázquez´s elder daughter) or Juan Carreño ones, who became Charles´s the 2nd favorite painter, decorated Spain´s main castles and palaces about 4 centuries ago.This is a unique opportunityto see some masterpieces of the artist called "the painter of the painters" who inspired other international artists like Manet.
