English version:
The architect Chad Oppenheim grew up in New Jersey, but when he was 15 his family moved to Colorado. The landscape fascinated him and although Oppenheim is currently living in Miami, he promised himself that someday he would buy a home there ...
It took a while, but he finally fulfilled his promise: he bought a house for $
3 million, was a structure of
3,200 square feet, built in 1971; it was ruined and needed a
huge reform, but Oppenheim knew that his project should be respecful with
nature: So, instead of trying to
compete with the beauty of the natural landscape, he chose to do
integrate it inside.
The building is five levels high, but it gives the impression
of three. Large windows
with views of the mountains, the river, the garden ...
the landscape comes inside across the
big windows and it dissapears the
barriers between inside and outside.
Its interior is also
quiet and simple, with little accessories and frameless doors, woodwork of the doors
are narrow strips of bronze that
disappear.
Light switches are even more minimalist: tiny, light
green and red to indicate whether they
are on or off, and in the bathroom, the drains are narrow slits. The
furniture is designed in
the same way: neutral palette of color (gray, brown, black and white) which
don´t compete with
bright colors of the landscape.
…if the housedisappears, then you can concentrate on what really matters and all that remains is
nature.
