La trofalaxia es un fenómeno que se da en muchos insectos sociales, y consiste en el intercambio de alimento preingerido entre dos individuos de la misma colonia. Aunque puede tener un componente nutricional importante, también representa una forma de compartir feromonas para mantener la identidad de los componentes del nido o incluso flora intestinal vital para la digestión.
