The Evita Museum is located in an old house, which from 1948, served as the Hogar de Tránsito No. 2, purchased by the María Eva Duarte de Perón Foundation. The main idea behind this was to provide housing for women coming from other provinces in the country who were suffering from unemployment, housing or health issues and had basically nowhere else to go. In 1955 all of the assets of the Foundation were taken over by the new government (which of course was radically against the previous, Perón government), and the building was used as administrative offices for different government dependencies. Only the 26th of June 2002, was the museum inaugurated, in celebration of the 50 years of Eva Duarte de Perón's death.
The museum is at Lafinur 2988, just a block from the Botanical Gardens of Buenos Aires. It's purpose is to promote and display the life and the ideals of María Eva Duarte de Perón. The collection has over 3 thousand articles, that include documents, books, photographs, accesories, personal belongings, shoes, dresses, hats and films, alongside other many things!.
It also has a very nice restaurant and bar. This is ideal for a Summer or Spring evening, as it has a beautiful outdoor patio. The museum is open Tuesdays through to Sundays, from 11 to 19 hours.
