Palacio San Martín

El Palacio San Martín se emplaza sobre la Avenida Arenales al 761, en el barrio de Retiro, frente a la Plaza San Martín. Antes de ser conocido como el Palacio San Martín, el edificio se conocía como el Palacio Anchorena. La construcción del palacio se dió entre los años 1905 y 1909. La construcción estuvo a cargo del arquitecto Alejandro Christophersen, y encomendada por Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena (también protagonista de la historia relatada en El Kavanagh). Hoy en día es la sede ceremonial de la Cancillería, dependiente del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de la Nación. Sirvió como la sede del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores entre los años 1936 y 1993 cuando se inauguró el moderno edificio de la Cancillería, justo en frente del palacio.
The "Palacio San Martin" can be found on the Avenida Arenales 761, in Retiro, just in front of the Plaza San Martin. It was previously known as the Palacio Anchorena. It was built between the years 1905 and 1909, by architect Alejandro Christophersen, under the auspices of Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena (the family was also involved in the story of a previous post El Kavanagh). Today, the building is the venue of the Protocol wing of the Chancellery, depending on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between the years 1936 and 1993 it was the actual venue of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, until the modern building of the chancellery was erected right in front of it.
