Peplums: are you in or are you out

Una tendencia distinta, sofisticada donde la figura femenina toma el protagonismo; las curvas y las formas se resaltan, la feminidad pisa fuerte, y lo hace con muchísima personalidad. / A different and sophisticated trend where the feminine figure becomes the protagonist; curves and shapes are highlight, femininity stomps, and does it with a lot of personality.

Empezaron fuerte el pasado verano, y siguen siendo tendencia este otoño 2012. Es curioso porque no se apostaba mucho por esta tendencia, y sin embargo, aquí sigue, es mas con el paso de los meses ha ido cogiendo mucha mas fuerza. Seguiremos viéndola en 2013, de eso estoy segura. / They started strong last summer, and still does during this fall 2012. It's funny, there were small bets for this trend, however, it still hear, and as the month pass by, it is stronger.  We will still see it in 2013, I am pretty sure.


Pero que significa peplum? que es exactamente? por si no tienes muy claro lo que es, se trata de un volante en forma de campana, que sale desde la cintura de una prenda de vestir. / What means peplum? What is exactly? if you don't have very clear what it is, it's a flared ruffled attache to the waist in a clothing garment.

La historia del Peplum. / Peplum and history. 
La primera vez que aparecio esta silueta fue en el siglo XIX, como sobre falda con volantes cortos que caían desde la cintura para acentuar las caderas. En 1800 una figura sana era aquella que tenia curvas; las mujeres con curvas y celulitis eran las aclamadas; como cambian los cánones estéticos a lo largo del tiempo! / The first time this shilouette was in fashion were during 19th century, as as a overskirt with shorts ruffles that fall from the waist to highlight the hips. In 1800's a healthy figure was those with curves; women with them and cellulite where to must attractive ones; how aesthetic change over time!

Fue Christian Dior quien en los años 40 la volvió a adoptar para crear sus diseños. Las calles de París se llenaron de mujeres elegantes, chic y estilosas, que sabían llevar las piezas de Dior con muchísima clase. / It was Christian Dior who in the 40's took it to draw his designs. The streets of Paris were full of elegant, chic ans stylish women, they knew how to wear Dior pieces with plenty of class.


En los ochenta, los volumenes volvieron a surgir, y junto a las hombreras, los peplum se hicieron un hueco. El diseñador que mas aposto por ella fue Versace en 1987. / During the 80'S volumes came back, and besides shoulder pads, peplums took there place too. Versace was one of the designers that bet for it back in 1987.

Por suerte, en moda todo vuelve, pero nunca igual que antes, sino con cambios, adaptándose a cada época. En esta ocasión, muchos de los modelos exageran el volante en exceso, estamos el el siglo XXI, que esperabas? / For luck, in fashion all came back, but never as before, always with changes, fitting in each time. Now many designs are over volume, sometimes too much, but we are in the 21th century, what were you waiting for?


El peplum y la estética. / Peplum and aestetic.
La intención estética es la misma que la del siglo XIX, acentuar la figura femenina. / The fashion purpose is the same as it was in the 19th century, highlight the female figure. 

Lo mejor del peplum es que da volumen donde hace falta, en una sociedad donde la mayoria de las mujeres somos delgadas, en ocasiones es necesario recordar que las curvas también son importantes. Pero no nos podemos olvidar, que puede esconder lo que no queremos enseñar, por ejemplo este tipo de prendas son estupendas cuando estamos en ese ciclo del mes que tanto nos gusta, nos sentimos hinchadas y nos vemos fatal, la tripa se esconde y se resaltan las caderas, no te parece perfecto? / The best of peplum is that it give volume where is needed, in a society were many women are slim, sometimes we have to remember that curves are also important. But we can't forget that it can hide what we don't want to show, for instant those garments are great when we are in the cycle of the month we love, we felt swollen, then guts hides and the hips are highlight, isn't that perfect?

Las mejores prendas para crear este efecto son las chaquetas y tops sin peplums altos en la cintura. / This silhouette draws a hourglass, lengthen your waist. The best clothing to create this are jackets and tops without peplums high at the waist.

Si quieres llevarla con estilo no te olvides que la parte clave sera la pieza peplum y el resto solo forma parte del acompañamiento; es como un filete, las patatas y la guarnición también están ahí, pero la carne es la parte principal del plato. Así que no añadas mas volúmenes, ni estampados exagerados, ni demasiadas formas, mas bien busca prendas ligeras y rectas. / If you want to wear it with style don't forget that the main piece is the peplum, the rest is only the accompaniment; it's like a steak, the chips and the garnish are also there but the meat is the main part of the meal. So avoid volume, prints, big forms, and look for plain and light clothing. 

Para las chicas rebeldes y malas, ahora es el momento de darle un toque mas fashion, combinalo con prendas de carácter deportivo o telas arriesgadas como el cuero. Los leggings de cuero son también una opción estupenda. / For rebel and bad girls, now is time to give it a more fashion touch, mix it with sport or strong fabrics such as leather or mesh. Lether leggings are also a great choice.


Peplum en invierno. / Peplum in winter. 
Si eres de las que piensan que para invierno esta tendencia no es ponible, ya que el volumen puede quedar demasiado exagerado debajo de la ropa de abrigo, te equivocas. Las chaquetas tipo peplum son una de las mejores opciones para ello. / If you are one of those to think that this trend is not posible in winter, due to the volume that can be over exagerated under the outside clothing, you are wrong. Peplum jackets are the best option for that.

O busca prendas peplum hechas con telas ligeras como el algodón, no abultaran demasiado, quedan ideales, y seguramente (sino te va mucho la tendencia) te sentirás mucho mas cómoda. /  Or look for light fabrics peplum clothing as cotton, they won't be too exagerated, look great and they (if you are not into this trend) will make you feel more confortable.

Otra son los cinturones, que hemos empezado a ver durante este otoño. Una alternativa estupenda que te permitirá jugar con cualquier look, y queda de lo mas chic. / Others are the belts, we have started to see them during this fall. A gorgeous option that will help you play with any look, and its so chic.


Tres formas de llevar Peplum. / Three ways to wear Peplum.
1. En un vestido. / In a dress.

Queda ideal, es sin duda la opción que mas te recomiendo si quieres empezar a experimentar con esta tenencia. Si ya tienes uno pero es de verano, y quieres seguir llevándolo este invierno ponle unos taconazos y una chaqueta por encima; para el día chaqueta de lana mejor, y para salir por la noche busca alguna un poco mas de vestir, estarás divina! / It look awesome, it's for sure the option I recomend if you want to start experimenting with this trend. If you already got one but it's from summer, you can still wear it this winter just do it with pumps and a jacket on top: for the day chose a wool jacket and for the eveing a dressy one, you will look gorgeous!


2. En un top. / With a top. 
Queda ideal con pantalones pitillo o leggings, pero evita los acampanados o de pata ancha. Si quieres darle un toque de vestir combinalo con pantalones o faldas de traje, pero para un look casual nada queda mejor que llevarlo con unos vaqueros. / It looks great with cigarette pants or leggings, but avoid wide leg pants. If you want to get a dressy look, mix it with tailored pants or skirts, but for a casual one, nothing is better than wear it with jeans.



Si te lo pones con unos short, conseguirás un look mas rebelde, y arriesgado; con mayor personalidad. Cambia esos shorts por otros de lentejuelas para salir por la noche. / If you wear it with shorts, you will get a more rebel, free-and-easy look, with pleanty of personality.

3. En una falda. / Within a skirt.  

Pontela con una camiseta básica, o un top ajustado. Ten cuidado porque estas faldas ensanchan bastante la cintura.  / Wear it with a basic t-short or a tight tee. Be careful, those skirts widen enogh the waist.
