To die for...Emilio de la Morena!!!
One day I decided to send an email to someone I really admire. I feared I would never get a reply. But a few days ago, I got his eagerly awaited answer. Many thanks! It´s an honor and a pleasure for me!!

I always feel a penchant for entrepreneurial outlook.

I admired him because he was and is brave. He made a decision. He left almost everything for his passion. His choice was courageous: follow his calling, his fashion vocation.

There´s a very popular Spanish idiom perfectly suitable for him that more or less stands for: No man is a prophet in his own land. But in this particular case, it was his choice too.

How many Spanish designers are capable of selling their creations on one of the most influential and luxurious online retailers ever? In fact, just one, the one and only Emilio de la Morena.

How many Spanish designers are dying to dress the hottest celebrities in the star system all around the world??All of them, I dare say…but just one accomplishes that mission.
To die for...Emilio de la Morena!!!

And quite unbelievably, he is a perfect stranger to the Spanish public.

I´m so proud of being able to share with you this amazing interview. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did:

When did you feel you wanted to be a designer?

I was one of those kids who spent hours with no end drawing, painting, crafting and all sorts of creative stuff kids do. As I grew up I always kept that creative flair as a hobby and decided to go to university to study something more "serious". My parents wanted for me and my brothers to study a good career, so with my pocket money I took various courses on painting and sculpture. At some point, fashion started gelling more than anything it was like an obsession, so I decided to take the risk, leave a highly paid job in London and enroll in a fashion degree. I think it was the easiest decision to make but some people around me thought I was crazy, but it was the best decision I have ever made. It was meant to be.

What did you do before that?Tell us something about you(I heard you had a completely different career before designing and we are so proud because your are Spanish!!!!)

I studied economics and ended up working as a consultant in the city. I was one of those working ants dressed in a dark suit working and working some more in an office. Even though some might regard those jobs as boring, serious and quite stiff, I found creativity as the way to move forward and succeed. Every challenge in life pushes your creativity. From how to achieve a certain figure to how to get into your flat when you left your keys in. Is all about imagining and figuring out. But I missed the colours , volumes, textures and shapes on a daily basis.

Which is your favourite colour and fabric?

It is difficult to choose one, but I would say the crinkled I used on last spring summer collection is very dear to me. I love its body because it allows you to create amazing volumes but also it is so light and delicate that feels like its floating.

Colour wise I can't really pick one. Every colour has a million beautiful hues, shades and tones. Love them all.

Do you have a muse or someone who inspires you?

All designers when we start we go for those iconic women in the 20th century actresses, singers, ... when you begin to get known some stylists approach your PR office to ask for dresses. I am blessed that Julia Restoin Roitfield herself took a liking on what I do. She is so gorgeous and so cool. She loves my dresses and I love the way they look on her. I think they complement each other. She brings them to life and they make her look incredible . So for the first time I think on a real woman. I think designer have to be careful not to idealise women otherwise we end up parodied them and that is the worst thing we can do. I really get inspired by art.
