Basílica del Santísimo Sacramento

La Basílica del Santísimo Sacramento se encuentra en el barrio de Retiro, detrás del Edificio Kavanagh, sobre la calle San Martín al 1039. La obra fue encargada por una de las damas de la alta sociedad de Buenos Aires de principios del Siglo XX, Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena. Se comenta que ella haría dicho que si ella vivía en un palacio (el actual Palacio San Martín, sede de los actos ceremoniales del a actual Cancillería), entonces Dios debía de tener su propio palacio. La iglesia fue inaugurada en 1916 y en sin duda una de las más lujosas de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, y lugar elegido por celebridades para celebrar su matrimonio. El cuerpo de Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena se encuentra enterrado en las bovedas de la iglesia. La idea original era disponer de una cripta para toda la familia Anchorena, pero ella es la única de la familia que descansa ahí. El resto de la familia se encuentra en el mausoleo de la familia en el Cementerio de la Recoleta.
The Basílica del Santisimo Sacramento is located in the Retiro area, just behind the Kavanagh Building, at San Martin street 1039. Construction was ordered by one of Buenos Aires´ high society ladies form the beginning of the 20th Century: Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena. She was heard saying that if she lived in a palace (the Palacio San Martín, current venue of the protocol section of the Foreign Services Department) so should her God have his own palace. The church was finished in 1916, and became one of the most luxurios ones in the city, elected by a lot of celebrities as the church were they married.
The body of Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena rests in the underground vault of the church. The original idea was to use the cript as the resting place for all of the Anchorena family, but in the end she is the only memeber that rests there. The rest of the family can be found in their own mausoleum in the Recoleta Cemetery.
