FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT: ” The Land

Dionisio D. Martinez, 1956

is the simplest form of architecture”1 and America
needs a simple house. Home should be
anything built by hand from the ground up, anything
that leaves dirt under your fingernails, anything light enough
to float above your life, but it’s 1953 and your family
is building a bomb shelter in the yard. Frank Lloyd Wright
is being interviewed on television, where the world
is still black and white. You want him to give you
the dimensions of your life although you’re still
too young and inarticulate to say it. All you can do
is fix your eyes on the man’s hands. They are gesturing,
building something out of air, in the air. You drop
the shovel and the survival kit. Even your imaginary
weapons disappear as you try to put his hands into words.

es la arquitectura más simple” y América
necesita una casa simple. Hogar debería ser
cualquier cosa construida a mano de la tierra hacia arriba, cualquier cosa
que deje tierra debajo de tus uñas, cualquier cosa suficientemente ligera
para flotar por encima de tu vida, pero es 1953 y tu familia
está construyendo un refugio antibombas en el patio. Frank Lloyd Wright
está siendo entrevistado en televisión, donde el mundo
es todavía blanco y negro. Tu quieres que te de
las dimensiones de tu vida aunque aún eres
muy joven e inarticulado para decirlo. Todo lo que puedes hacer
es fijar tus ojos en las manos del hombre. Estan gesticulando,
