Future Noir 2017

Paul M Sammon nos ha regalado con una tercera edición de su Biblia de Blade Runner, Future Noir. Con contenidos ampliados y mención a la secuela Blade Runner 2049, vale la pena una lectura completa del mismo. Editado en tapa blanda, a un precio muy asequible, se aparta un poco de la excelente edición en tapa dura de 2007, pero al menos así muchos más fans tendrán acceso al mismo. La anterior edición resulta un artículo de lujo hoy en día. Será por la falta de distribución o por otros problemas que ahora ya no importan.

Aparte de destacar la increíble e ingente cantidad de trabajo que supone escribir un libro así, Paul ha sabido estar al día de todo lo que ocurría alrededor de la película. Y una parte destacable son los fans, y el movimiento que ha causado su afición en las redes sociales y en Internet en general.

Así es como en la anterior edición apenas fuímos 7 los elegidos y destacados como responsables de sendas páginas Web dedicadas a Blade Runner. En este caso ya casi somos legión en la sección de agradecimientos, y en cuanto a Internet se han ampliado y mucho las menciones a distintos sitios y páginas que llevan años, por no decir décadas, sin bajar nunca el listón.

Aparecer una vez en este libro ya era un regalo. ¡Aparecer dos es casi un exceso! Sólo faltaba una entrevista para redondear ya el tema. No pido tanto. Me conformo con tener la obligación de seguir manteniendo esta página viva y actual, cosa que como ya he mencionado no ha sido así en tiempos. La dispersión hacia otros medios, como Facebook o Twitter, al final te deja sin recursos para abarcarlo todo.

Volviendo al libro. Es una lástima que no existan traducciones al español. Apenas una traducción italiana de la primera edición, así como una edición japonesa, si no recuerdo mal. Y para no faltar a la verdad, también una traducción española de la primera edición, ciertamente. Poco más.  Nada de la segunda edición, ampliada con el Montaje Final entre otras cosas, y creo que de esta tercera tampoco la habrá. Estoy convencido de que muchos aficionados de habla hispana agradecerían mucho poder leer semejante cantidad de información en su idioma. Acometer una traducción no oficial, cuando se trata de un libro de más de 500 páginas, no es nada trivial. Pero… ¿quién lo descarta?

Paul M Sammon has given us a third edition of his Blade Runner Bible, Future Noir. With expanded content and mention to the sequel Blade Runner 2049, it is worth a complete reading of it. Edited on softcover, at a very affordable price, it departs somewhat from the excellent hardcover edition of 2007, but at least so many more fans will have access to it. The previous edition is a luxury item today. It will be because of the lack of distribution or other problems that now no longer matter.

Apart from highlighting the incredible amount of work involved in writing such a book, Paul has been able to keep up with everything that happened around the film. And a notable part are the fans, and the movement that has caused their fondness in social networks and the Internet in general.

This is how in the previous edition we were just 7 chosen and highlighted as responsible for each Web pages dedicated to Blade Runner. Nowadays we are almost legion in the section of acknowledgments, and as far as the Internet have been extended and many mentions to different sites and pages that take years, not to say decades, without ever lowering the bar.

Appearing once in this book was already a gift. Appearing two is almost an excess! Only one interview was needed to round off the subject. I do not ask for so much. I am satisfied with having the obligation to keep this page alive and current, which as I have mentioned has not been so in times. The spread to other media, such as Facebook or Twitter, ultimately leaves you with no resources to cover everything.

Back to the book. It is a pity that there are no translations into Spanish. Just an Italian translation of the first edition, as well as a Japanese edition, if I remember correctly. And to not miss the truth, also a Spanish translation of the first edition, certainly. Little more. Nothing of the second edition, extended with the Final Cut among other things, and I think this third one will not be either. I am convinced that many Spanish-speaking fans would appreciate being able to read such a large amount of information in their language. To undertake an unofficial translation, when it is a book of more than 500 pages, is not at all trivial. But who discards it?
