Claro que conoces esta canción, lo que pasa es que igual es algo complicado recordar ¡30 años después! que los autores de esta fantástica “Holiday Rap” eran un par de holandeses -con bastante jeta pero indudable gracejo- que respondían a los nombres de MC Miker G & DJ Sven.
Juro que no soy capaz de discernir muy bien, entre los brumosos recuerdos de mi infancia, si me enamoré de la pista original de Madonna (1983), o fue más bien de esta peculiar ¿versión? ¿remezcla? ¿apropiación? que convirtió a Lucien Witteveen y Sven van Veen en sujetos de un descomunal “one hit wonder“. Lo suyo sería decir que a mis tiernos siete años yo ya era un chico con un tremendo olfato para el pop pluscuamperfecto de la Ciccone, pero mucho me temo que mi afecto por este encantador trasto sonoro tiene más que ver con el hecho de que SSMM Los Reyes Magos me regalaran el “Max Mix 4” (Sí, el de “Hazte Tu Propio Megamix”: cacharro de plástico para cortar y pegar cinta, resbaladores para los platos, y libro explicativo de Toni Peret y José Mª Castells… mejor dejamos este escabroso asunto para otro día), y en aquel recopilatorio apareciera este tema que hoy protagoniza la entrada de hoy.
El caso es que en Estados Unidos no le hicieron ni caso, pero por Europa las cosas fueron bien distintas: “Holiday Rap” alcanzó un notable éxito en nuestro continente, siendo además en el primer tema de rap (antes se decía así: rap… Ahora somos más de decir que los raperos hacen hip-hop) que alcanzaba el número uno en Francia. Lo curioso es que la canción explotar,a del modo en que lo hizo, cuando sólo hacía tres años que Madonna se había convertido en una de las más importante figuras del pop mundial con “Holiday“, y cuando -para colmo- el estribillo se construía sin ningún disimulo sobre el “Summer Holiday” de Cliff Richard. Pura “sampledelia casera”, antes de que pudieramos siquiera imaginar el advenimiento de la era del sampler, que renunciaba a cualquier posible sentido metafórico del “holiday” del titulo y lo llevaba más allá de la literalidad: lo que los raperos holandeses nos cuentan en la letra, no es otra cosa que chascarrillos varios sobre tener que ir al colegio, vacaciones con los colegas y cosas del estilo.
¿No es maravilloso? Que nadie se me eche las manos a la cabeza: si tenemos que dar por buenas las imágenes surrealistas de las letras de Chinarro o El Niño Gusano, a ver por qué no íbamos a poder mover el esqueleto sobre los planes de vacaciones de estos chicos, en Londres o (se llevan un pedacito de Amsterdam con ellos) Nueva York. Sea como fuere, ahí dejo este im-pa-ga-ble vídeo del tema (elegido por el canal musical MuchMusic como el peor de 1987, por cierto), y aprovechando vuestras caras de desconcierto hago mutis por el foro. Que la vieja Iruña se propone honrar a su santo con un abultado programa de animales a la carrera, desfases etílicos (y meadas en el portal), y un servidor no puede pasar ni un día más sin poner sus pies en las doradas arenas del sur…
