No hay mejor manera de dar inicio a un nuevo año que viajando y conociendo nuevos lugares, por eso comencé el 2016 en Berlín y fue una gran experiencia. Siendo la capital y el centro cultural de Alemania, Berlín tiene una oferta variada para el turista que va desde museos, hasta restaurantes, bares y discotecas.

El primer día en la capital alemana tomé una visita guiada al rededor de la ciudad que duró aproximadamente 3 horas (o un poco más) caminando. Una ciudad dividida por años, con una historia reciente tan intensa e interesante que era imposible no salir a conocer esos lugares que marcaron su historia.

Para celebrar la noche del 31, una cena en Brechts, un restaurante en el WeihnachtsZauber Gendarmenmarkt, a los pies del Konzerthaus de Berlín, luego unas tazas de Glühwein (la nueva adición a mi lista de bebidas favoritas) con recorrido por las galerías del lugar con puestos de venta de diseñadores locales y el espectáculo de fuegos artificiales y música clásica del Konzerthaus de Berlín a media noche para recibir el año nuevo.

La visita a Sachsenhausen el último día fue algo impresionante. Hace años que el tema del Tercer Reich me apasiona y poder estar ahí, en un campo de concentración, precisamente en el primero de Berlín, en una visita guiada que duró casi 4 horas, fue toda una experiencia.

There’s no better way of getting a new year started than traveling and knowing new places, that’s why I started 2016 in Berlin which was such a great experience. Being Germany’s capital and cultural center, Berlin has a wide range of options for tourists which include from museums, to restaurants, bars and discos.

The first day in the german capital I took a three hours approximately (or a bit more) walking tour around the city. A city divided for years, with an intense and interesting recent history, which made it impossible not to get out and know those important places in it’s history.

For the night of December 31st’s celebration, a dinner at Brechts, a restaurant in the WeihnachtsZauber Gendarmenmarkt, a market outside of the Berlin Konzerthaus, then a few cups of Glühwein (the new addition to my list of favourite drinks) with a tour around the galleries in the market, which included local designers’ stands and the show of fireworks with classic music from the Berlin Konzerthaus at midnight welcoming the new year.

To visit Sachsenhausen the last day was very impressive. For years I’ve been greatly interested in the Third Reich and being there, in a concentration camp, actually the first one in Berlin, in a guided tour that lasted almost 4 hours was such an experience.

Recomiendo los tours gratuitos que se ofrecen, los guías son muy capacitados y hacen los tours interesantísimos. La duración del tour es relativa, pero esta estimada en unas tres horas.

I recommend the offered free walking tours, guides are very well trained and make the tours very interesting. The tour lasts approximately 3 to 4 hours.

Museo de la Topografía del Terror · The Topography of Terror Museum

Entrada gratuita, es una exposición de fotos presentadas cronológicamente relatando hechos, fechas y funciones de cada una de las oficinas dentro de la Topografía del Terror. El centro está ubicado en el muro de Berlín, por lo que son dos visitas en una.

Free entrance, it’s a photo exhibition chronologically exposed, recounting facts, dates and functions of each office within the Topography of Terror. It’s located at the Berlin wall, so you can visit both at once.

Memorial y Museo Sachsenhausen · Memorial and Museum Sachsenhausen

Una visita guiada de entre 3 a 4 horas por el primer campo de concentración en Berlín y el que en su momento fue el campo ejemplar.

A 3 to 4 hour guided tour around the first concentration camp in Berlin, which at the time was the exemplary camp.

Monumento a los judíos asesinados en Europa · Memorial to the murdered jews of Europe

Monumento creado para la libre interpretación en homenaje a los judíos muertos en Europa. Debajo del mismo se encuentra el Centro de Información con exposiciones fotográficas, de audio y video, con fragmentos de cartas recuperadas y relatos de historias personales y familiares de los judíos en Europa antes, durante y después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. La entrada es gratuita, pero la fila es de aproximadamente 30 a 45 minutos.

Monument created for free interpretation as a homage to the jews murdered in Europe. Below is the Information Center with photo, audio and video exhibitions, including fragments of recovered letters and personal and family accounts of the jews in Europe before, during and after World War Two. Free entrance, but the line is about 30 to 45 minutes long.

WeihnachtsZauber Gendarmenmarkt

Excelente lugar para recibir el año nuevo en un buen ambiente, con shows en vivo y una gran variedad de opciones para comer, beber y comprar.WeihnachtsZauber Gendarmenmarkt es uno de los más de 60 mercadillos navideños de Berlín y está ubicado a los pies del Konzerthaus de Berlín.

Excellent choice to welcome the new year in a great environment with live shows and a variety of options to eat, drink and buy.WeihnachtsZauber Gendarmenmarkt is one of the more than 60 christmas markets in Berlin and it’s located outside of the Berlin Konzerthaus.
